'Assisted Outpatient Treatment saved my life'
Hello John,

We want to make sure that you saw Eric Smith’s powerful new Personally Speaking Blog, about the long, tortuous journey he took through mental illness—until he found his way into an Assisted Outpatient Treatment program.

Assisted Outpatient Treatment provides outpatient treatment under civil court order for those with severe mental illness. AOT laws have been shown to reduce hospitalization, arrest and incarceration, homelessness, victimization and violence.

In Eric’s case, he went through almost 15 years of failed medications, in and out of hospitals and one stay jail until, in his words, “AOT saved my life.”

AOT got Eric on the right medication to treat his illness and allowed him to return home to live with his family. Finally free of the grip of insanity, Eric embarked on a new path to college and graduate school, eventually becoming a national mental health advocate.

The Treatment Advocacy Center is proud to know, support and collaborate with Eric. Your generosity allows us to continue to advocate for solutions like AOT and help ensure that others do not have to endure the unnecessary traumas that Eric and his family did.

Thank you.
