Attacks on immigrant communities are tearing apart classrooms, families,
and communities. Tell Congress families don’t want this!

Dear Friend,

This week in Chicago, fear struck our youngest learners when ICE agents
ripped a beloved child care teacher and mother of two out of her day care
center. [ [link removed] ] [1]Tell Congress families DON’T want this. Children and
families were left in confusion and fear as someone they loved and trusted
was taken away. As mothers of young kids, it’s horrifying to imagine this
happening in our communities and to the caregivers that we know and love.

Yet this was not an isolated incident. While President Trump and
Republicans in Congress cut funding for healthcare, SNAP, and public
education, they’re diverting billions of taxpayer dollars to increase
funding for human rights abuses, cruel policies that tear families apart,
and for terrifying hardworking immigrants [ [link removed] ] - people essential to our
care workforce, our economy and our future.  Our nation needs a safe and
orderly immigration process that balances compassion and security, NOT
cuts to childcare and healthcare – and NOT cruelty.

What is happening?

More than a quarter of childcare workers (27%) are immigrants.[ [link removed] ]
Additionally, immigrant women make up a major share of the child care
workforce, accounting for nearly half of all female providers and early
educators in cities like Los Angeles and New York. In fourteen states and
the District of Columbia, immigrants make up more than 20 percent of early
educators, with even higher shares in Florida and New York.[ [link removed] ] Without
them, our caregiving system would collapse.

Instead of ripping these caregivers away from the babies and children in
their care, we should be investing in this critical workforce, which does
the important work of ensuring children in our communities thrive.

These workers are not just part of our families, our hearts, and our
communities, but also make it possible for millions of parents to stay
employed, for children to learn and grow in safe environments, and for
local economies to thrive. When caregivers are torn from their classrooms
and communities, the ripple effects are devastating. Families lose the
fragile support systems that are keeping them afloat and allow them to
work. Businesses lose much-needed workers.  Kids lose access to important
early education.

This fear doesn’t just harm immigrant families; it undermines every
child’s sense of safety and belonging. When some children feel unsafe, it
affects all children. The trauma and instability undermine early learning,
weaken family well-being, and erode the trust that strong communities
depend on.

tax dollars to fund fear, cruelty, and human rights abuses – and, instead,
lift families and the economy by reversing the cuts to childcare,
healthcare, WIC and SNAP, all of which open avenues for families to
thrive, boost the economy, and provide opportunities for families to build
good lives!  *When you click, you’ll automatically sign on if we already

Every child deserves to feel safe. Every caregiver deserves dignity and
protection. Our nation should be investing in affordable, accessible child
care, not cutting healthcare, education, and SNAP to pay for separating
families, human rights abuses, and terrifying hardworking immigrants -
people essential to our care workforce, our economy, and our future.

telling Congress to invest in care, not cruelty:

Dear Member of Congress,

This week in Chicago, ICE agents ripped a beloved child care teacher and
mother of two out of her place of work, leaving children and families in
fear and confusion. As moms and those who love them, it’s terrifying to
see this happening to the caregivers that we trust every day and in our
communities.

Immigrants make up more than a quarter of child care workers nationwide,
and in many states, nearly half of all early educators. Without them, our
child care system would collapse. Our nation should be investing in
affordable, accessible child care, not cutting healthcare, education, and
SNAP to pay for more funding for separating families, human rights abuses,
and terrifying hardworking immigrants.  Our nation needs a safe and
orderly immigration process that balances compassion and security –NOT
cuts to programs that provide the tools and opportunities families need to
build good lives, and NOT cruelty.

Children deserve safe, affordable, high-quality care and compassionate
learning environments. No caregiver should fear going to work. No child
should have to fear that their learning will be interrupted with cruelty.
Congress must stop the cuts to healthcare, childcare, SNAP, and stop
funding fear, cruelty, and human rights abuses that increase costs for
families and exacerbate labor shortages in the care workforce. It’s time
to invest in child care, healthcare, and SNAP that strengthen families and
communities – and respect immigrant care workers.

The more of us that speak up, the louder we are, the more power we build.
Thank you for your work on behalf of our nation’s families!
