News From Congressman Bilirakis

November 9, 2025

Dear Neighbor,

As Americans continue to face the impacts of this shutdown, my priority remains clear: fighting for Floridians—for our Veterans, seniors, families, and small businesses. I will keep urging Democrats to end this needless gridlock and work together to reopen the government so Americans can get the stability and support they deserve.  Continue reading to learn more about my efforts on your behalf last week.

Reopening the Government:  It is time for Democrats to do the right thing and end this needless hardship by reopening the government. Our Veterans and military families, and hardworking Americans across the country deserve stability and support, not political games.

Seniors, children, and working families are losing full access to vital SNAP benefits—lifelines that help them put food on the table. I applaud the President's decision to use contingency funds to keep some benefits flowing; however, this is a temporary reprieve from a full SNAP funding crisis caused by Democrats’ political games. These are some of the most vulnerable members of our community, and they should never be caught in the middle of political gridlock. It’s time for Democrats to stop holding these families hostage and work with us to reopen the government so Floridians can get the help they need. Read more about recent developments on SNAP benefits here.

Fighting for Affordable Healthcare:  Last week, I met with hospital leaders from across our Congressional district to discuss the serious challenges they’re facing during the shutdown, the importance of the Rural Hospital Transformation Fund, and the need to ensure vulnerable participants in the Affordable Care Act program maintain access to affordable healthcare coverage.  I remain committed to advancing real solutions that strengthen our healthcare system and support all my constituents.

I also truly enjoyed visiting the Bayonet Point Inpatient Rehabilitation Program last week! We had meaningful discussions about patient outcomes and the importance of making quality physical therapy accessible after serious injuries, particularly for seniors.

Addressing Hunger in Our Communities: I visited Volunteer Way, a local food bank in Pasco County, to discuss the rising demand for food assistance amid the ongoing government shutdown. It’s clear that many of our neighbors are struggling, and I’m deeply grateful for organizations like this one that are stepping up to keep our community fed.  I urge my Senate Democrat colleagues to do the right thing—reopen the government and end this unnecessary hardship.

Hearing Directly from You:  At my most recent Take A Stand Forum, I had the opportunity to hear directly from constituents about the issues that matter most to them. This monthly event allows participants to speak for five minutes on any topic of their choice, and it’s one of the most meaningful ways for me to stay connected to the people I serve.  If you’re interested in participating in a future Take A Stand event, please contact my office for more information.

Supporting Our Seniors:  I visited one of Pasco County’s senior congregate dining sites to speak with participants about how the shutdown is impacting them. Thankfully, the Area Agency on Aging of Pinellas and Pasco has partnered with Pasco County to provide additional take-home meals to help offset the loss of SNAP benefits.  Elder Options is doing the same for Hernando and Citrus counties.  Our seniors deserve better than to be caught in the middle of partisan gridlock.

Honoring and Helping Our Heroes: Last week, I had the privilege of participating in several events recognizing the courage and sacrifice of our nation’s Veterans.  The New Port Richey Rotary’s Heroes Luncheon was a meaningful opportunity to celebrate local Veterans who have bravely served our country.

The USA Hockey Long Drink Warrior Classic was also a powerful event in Pasco County that brought together Wounded Warrior teams from across the country for a hockey tournament supporting disabled Veterans.  I was honored to participate in the ceremonial puck drop. God bless these Veterans!

The Gold Star Memorial Breakfast was a heartfelt gathering where community leaders came together to honor our fallen heroes and support Gold Star families.

Additionally, my 10th Annual Stars, Stripes, and Smiles event was a huge success.  A special thank you to the local dentists, especially Dr. Zack Kalarickal, who has been a steadfast partner in helping me put on this annual event. These dedicated dentists  volunteered their time to provide free dental care to Veterans experiencing dental pain and conducted procedures that included extractions, root canals, fillings and crowns.  This year, I was also proud to co-host with my colleague, Representative Laurel Lee.  Together, we are raising awareness about the number of Veterans in need of help.   Oral health is a critical part of overall wellness, and I’m proud that legislation I championed was recently signed into law—establishing a pilot program to expand Veterans’ access to dental care. Until that program is fully implemented, the generosity of these volunteers continues to make an immediate difference in our community.

Demanding Accountability:  I’m also working to hold companies accountable when they violate the law by hiring individuals who are here illegally. We must enforce our laws and protect Americans. Click here to learn more about my actions.

Community Connection

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.

My team was honored to meet with the dedicated emergency response professionals who play such a vital role in our communities during the Long Term Recovery Group’s quarterly meeting.

It was also a privilege for my team to support the scouting movement at this year’s annual Scouting Breakfast. The organization’s dedication to fostering leadership, character, and community service among young people is truly commendable.

Additionally, my team appreciated the opportunity to attend the Senior Support Dementia Café meeting, where we heard directly from those who work tirelessly to help patients and caregivers cope with the challenges of this debilitating disease.

Constituent Corner

My team recently received this message from a constituent after my team helped with her Office of Personnel Management case.

I want to express my sincere appreciation to the Congressman's staff, particularly those who have responded to and taken action on my ongoing case that has been impeded by the government shutdown. Your commitment to serving constituents at the local level has been invaluable, and I'm grateful for the assistance I've received.  While I may not always agree with every policy position, I deeply respect the dedication your office shows to constituent services/community support, and would be honored to share my positive experience.

This  is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office.  The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape.  Also, if you are planning a trip to Washington, DC please let us know 90 days in advance so we can help make the most of your visit.   We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
