An update from the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino

SPOTLIGHT

Honoring Long Island’s Veterans and Their Service to Our Nation

This upcoming week, as our nation observes Veterans Day, Andrew joins all Long Islanders in honoring the brave men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform. Their courage and sacrifice have preserved our freedoms and strengthened our communities.

In Congress, Andrew continues to champion legislation supporting veterans, such as the Saving Veterans Halls Act, which would help local Veterans Service Organizations access federal funding for building and technology improvements. He remains committed to ensuring that all veterans receive the care and benefits they have earned.

“It is a privilege to represent so many distinguished veterans from Long Island’s South Shore, men and women who continue to serve and strengthen our communities. To all who served, thank you.” – Congressman Garbarino

Homeland Security Chairman outlines "increased risk" of air travel due to Schumer Shutdown

"

Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R., N.Y.), the Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, explained to the Washington Reporter how his home state senator’s ongoing shutdown is causing an “increased risk amid an evolving threat landscape.” While Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) continues his historic obstruction, Garbarino painted a bleak portrait of what America’s airports look like — and laid the blame squarely at the feet of Schumer and his fellow Senate Democrats.

“By refusing to pass the House’s continuing resolution, Senate Democrats are forcing dedicated TSA and FAA personnel to work without pay, putting additional stress on this frontline workforce and causing lengthy delays at major airports, like Newark,” Garbarino told the Reporter.Even worse, every minute this shutdown continues, it is undermining these professionals’ homeland security missions and putting the traveling public — and our airspace — at increased risk amid an evolving threat landscape. As we near the busy holiday season, it is vital for Congress to know the extent of these operational impacts and for my Senate Democrat colleagues to see the dangerous cost of prolonging this shutdown." WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02

Andrew Honors Veterans at Ronkonkoma Middle School

In a special message shared at the Ronkonkoma Middle School Veterans Day event, Andrew recognized Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, Sal Napolitano, for his dedication to his country and the Ronkonkoma community. Andrew also extended his heartfelt thanks to all veterans across Long Island for their service and commitment to keeping our nation safe.

Spreading Holiday Cheer to Children in Need

The U.S. Postal Service’s annual Operation Santa program is underway, giving Americans the opportunity to help make the holidays brighter for children and families in need. Through this long-standing tradition, volunteers can “adopt” letters to Santa and send thoughtful gifts to those who might otherwise go without.

Andrew encourages Long Islanders to get involved and share the spirit of giving this holiday season. To learn more or participate, visit USPSOperationSanta.com and check the site for key program dates.

CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Assisting a Constituent with a Passport Correction

Earlier this week, Andrew’s office was contacted by a constituent who needed urgent help with his passport application before upcoming international travel. Due to an error on his original submission, the application was unable to process. Andrew’s casework team immediately guided the constituent through the correction process, worked with the appropriate federal agency to resubmit the documentation, and ensured the application was approved, processed, and shipped the very next day. Thanks to their quick action, the constituent will have his passport in hand before his scheduled departure.

Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case.

KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS

9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act Reaches 100 Bipartisan Cosponsors

This week, the 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act, led by Amdrew and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, reached 100 bipartisan cosponsors in the House of Representatives. The bill builds on Andrew's successful effort last year to fix the $3 billion shortfall threatening the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP); ensuring continued care for more than 130,000 9/11 first responders and survivors across the country.

The growing bipartisan support for this legislation underscores the importance of protecting those who risked everything on September 11, 2001, and in the weeks that followed. Andrew remains committed to ensuring these heroes receive the health care and benefits they have earned.

Andrew and Committee Chairs Call for Investigation into CCP Tech Threats

Andrew joined fellow committee chairs in urging the Department of Commerce to investigate Chinese Communist Party–linked technology companies that could threaten U.S. infrastructure and national security. The letter highlights growing concerns over Chinese influence in critical industries like connected vehicles and telecommunications and calls for stronger safeguards to protect Americans from foreign technology risks.
