When I was harassed and threatened for standing up for the LGBTQ+ students in my district, I questioned if I should take a step back to protect my daughter.

My home address was doxed by a State Representative, and Republicans used my driveway as a meeting place to protest LGBTQ-affirming policies in the school district. They shouted slurs into a megaphone and marched around with homophobic signs.

I’ll be honest, their scare tactics almost worked on me. They tried to intimidate me into silence. Until I realized their actions were the exact reason why I needed to continue my work on the School Board.

I couldn’t abandon the LGBTQ+ students and staff in my district. I had to keep fighting for them and their education.
