The new Springfield bill is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reform and rebuild Illinois’ transit system. It creates a next-generation network connecting city, suburban, and collar counties, with improved reliability, better connections, unified fares, and clear standards for accountability all without raising new taxes.

I’ve long advocated for public transportation, from my time as an alderman to launching Cook County’s first Long Range Transportation Plan in 70 years, and I have supported this proposal as a critical step forward for our transit future. Public transit is the backbone of a thriving economy, a sustainable environment, and livable communities. Making transit more accessible and dependable strengthens neighborhoods, supports local economies, reduces traffic and pollution, and improves quality of life across the region.
