ON THIS DATE IN 1989 - THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALLToday marks the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, one of the most defining moments of the 20th century. For decades, the Wall stood as a physical and moral symbol of communist repression, dividing not just a city, but families, lives, and the ideals of freedom itself. President Ronald Reagan understood that symbolism deeply. In 1987, standing at the Brandenburg Gate, he delivered one of the most important speeches of the modern era, challenging the Soviet regime directly and clearly: “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” Reagan’s words were not just rhetorical. They helped shape the global pressure and moral resolve that led to the collapse of the Wall two years later and ultimately, the end of the Cold War.
