A Message from Gabe:

Greetings Rhode Islanders,

Trump and Congressional Republicans' policy choices are risking millions of Americans food assistance and ability to afford health care. We are approaching the sixth week of the government shutdown. At every turn Trump has chosen to push policies preventing 42 million Americans, including 144,000 Rhode Islanders, from receiving SNAP assistance, even though he has the legal authority and the ability to send out benefits according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. The administration has challenged federal court rulings in Rhode Island and Massachusetts that would compel USDA to pay full SNAP benefits for November, even going all the way up to the Supreme Court.

Rhode Island SNAP recipients can find more information about SNAP disbursal by visiting SNAPsupport.ri.gov.

CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Amo denounces President Trump's policies that are making Rhode Islanders hungrier, sicker, and poorer.

These are policy choices that are hurting Rhode Islanders. Benefits do not have to be delayed, and health insurance costs do not have to go up. But Republican policies are making Rhode Islanders less well off.

In contrast, Rhode Island leaders are mobilizing and standing up to Trump's policies that attack our communities. I have traveled throughout our First Congressional District, speaking with neighbors hurt by Republican policies that cut food assistance and undermine health care. I have joined passionate, committed volunteers to ensure families across our state can still put food on the table.

Congressman Amo helped dedicated volunteers pack food boxes at Milagros Project in Woonsocket.
In Pawtucket, Congressman Amo joined the ELISHA Project and volunteers to pack food and supplies for Rhode Islanders in need.

Congressman Amo joined neighbors at Mt. Hope Community Center in Providence to pack boxes and keep Rhode Islanders fed. Congressman Amo and Rhode Island's congressional delegation speak with labor leaders against cuts to SNAP and health care.

My website lists resources for SNAP beneficiaries in need of help. For more information on SNAP, visit SnapSupport.ri.gov.

Additionally, open enrollment has begun for Rhode Islanders who purchase their health insurance through HealthSource RI, our state's Affordable Care Act Marketplace. Because President Trump and Congressional Republicans haven't extended the Affordable Care Act health care tax credits, 41,000 Rhode Islanders are facing eye-popping price increases for health insurance coverage in 2026. Rhode Islanders can see how Republican policies are jacking up health care prices on HealthSource RI's website.

I'm working for you to end this shutdown caused by Republican policies, lower costs, stop the cuts, feed families, and save health care. If you need assistance, please call our Rhode Island office at (401) 729-5600 or visit Rhode Island's website for more information.

Sincerely,

Member of Congress

Celebrated the generations of Rhode Island Veterans who served our nation with our uniquely Rhode Island tradition, WaterFire.

When we come together, we can bring light into the darkness and uplift our shared appreciation of patriotism, service, and sacrifice for the country we love.

Happy Halloween, Rhode Island!

Had to stop by the Kent Heights Halloween Celebration in East Providence and the Billy Taylor Trunk or Treat in Providence to chat with constituents about my work in Congress, see great costumes, share candy, and celebrate with our community.

Glad to discuss ALS United Rhode Island’s work supporting Rhode Islanders with ALS and their families.

While Trump's policies are cutting health care research, I will keep fighting in Congress to lower costs and fund ALS research.

Grateful to speak with the East Bay Chamber of Commerce about how Trump’s tariff policies and Republican health care policies are raising costs for small businesses.

Congress can do better. I am working to invest in our local economy and stop the uncertainty.

Here is to 10 years of impact for Millennial Rhode Island!

Congress must protect Social Security — for current retirees and future recipients alike.

Glad to have the partnership of the Rhode Island Alliance for Retired Americans and the Rhode Island AFL-CIO to protect the promise of Social Security.

Visited the Barrington Farm School to see firsthand how Rhode Island farmers are making a difference.

While Trump and Republicans' policies are cutting SNAP benefits and ending local farm programs, these farmers are making donations of fresh, locally grown produce.

Proud to recognize the Rhode Island Coalition for Children and Families for their decade of tireless work supporting the health, safety, and success of Rhode Island’s children and families.

Congress must work together to protect essential services and offer Rhode Islanders hope in their time of need.

House Democrats are Working for All Americans

CLICK HERE TO WATCH: Congressman Gabe Amo discusses on CNN how House Democrats are fighting to lower costs and reopen the government.

The health care crisis caused by Donald Trump and Republican policies requires action. Rhode Islanders want to see their costs go down and Americans want to see their interests reflected in government.

I joined Kate Bolduan on CNN to discuss how I’m focused on addressing this head on while House Republicans have not passed legislation that would extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits.

House Democrats are focused on addressing affordability and the cost of living crisis created by President Trump's policies, standing up for people across our country, and rejecting the cruelty, corruption, and chaos coming out of Washington.

Leading 125 to Call on Secretary Rubio to Demonstrate American Leadership to Provide Humanitarian Aid for Palestinian Civilians

Image

I welcomed the ceasefire agreement that was reached two years after Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel. But there are still no details from the Trump administration on what aid is allowed into Gaza and what role the United States will play in aid delivery, nearly one month after the agreement was announced.

Amidst the challenges of maintaining the ceasefire, there needs to be a robust commitment from all parties to continue increasing the flow of aid into Gaza. That is why I led 125 colleagues in calling on Secretary of State Marco Rubio to ensure desperately needed humanitarian aid reaches Gazan civilians.

The State Department must continue to demand that humanitarian aid be allowed into Gaza for Palestinian civilians and must have a plan to ensure this goal is swiftly achieved. I will continue to do all possible to ensure civilians in Gaza are protected and provided with desperately needed humanitarian aid.

Stopping President Trump's Dangerous Gun Giveaway Policies

Image

President Trump's policies are making it easier for criminals and terrorists to get their hands on assault weapons by eliminating common sense gun export rules.

I joined Senators Elizabeth Warren and Dick Durbin, Representatives Joaquin Castro and Gregory Meeks, and 51 of my colleagues in Congress to demand that President Trump reverse his weak and dangerous gun policies, which are risking American lives to protect the gun industry.

Countering Trump's Policies in the Courts

The Trump administration's policies are being challenged and overturned in court. Americans have filed 500 lawsuits against the administration, and judges have partially or fully blocked over 139 of Trump's executive actions.

Recent Courtroom Wins:

FEDERAL JUDGES ORDER TRUMP ADMIN TO PAY FULL SNAP BENEFITS — A federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration to fully fund November SNAP benefits.

✅ COURT BLOCKS TRUMP ADMIN POLICIES ALTERING VOTER REGISTRATION — A federal judge ruled against the Trump administration's attempt to add burdensome proof-of-citizenship questions to federal voter registration forms.

✅ 100 JUDGES RULED AGAINST TRUMP ADMIN MANDATORY DETENTION — A new study shows that over 100 judges have ruled over 200 times against the Trump administration's mandatory detention immigration policies.
