Dear Friend,
Our community showed up strong for the October Community Zoom Meeting, and
so did our incredible speakers! We were joined by powerhouse leaders,
Neera Tanden, President and CEO, Center for American Progress (CAP), and
Fatima Goss Graves, President and CEO, National Women’s Law Center (NWLC),
who brought the energy, insight, and inspiration we needed to keep pushing
for change.
During our time together, we talked about what’s really going on with the
government shutdown and how the reckless decisions of the Republicans in
Congress have pushed our healthcare system into a full-on crisis. When
Republicans cut $1 trillion from healthcare programs this summer, they
took healthcare from over 15 million people. Now, the Affordable Care
Act’s enhanced premium tax credits—which help 24 million people afford
healthcare—are also under threat, putting affordable healthcare at even
greater risk. Instead of funding essential healthcare programs, Republican
leaders in Congress have doubled down on cuts and even shut down the
government out of an unwillingness to negotiate.
It’s become very clear that their priority isn’t families or our economy,
but tax breaks for millionaires and terrifying hardworking immigrants,
people who are critical to our care infrastructure, our economy, and our
futures! Our nation needs a safe and orderly immigration process that
balances compassion and security, NOT cuts to healthcare and NOT cruelty.
So we are not backing down. Together, we are meeting up, organizing,
speaking out, and fighting for the care every family deserves.
We are very grateful to our guest speakers, including Monifa
Akinwole-Bandele and Felicia Burnett; thank you also to our MomsRising
team members Kristin, Diarra, and Catalina! And the biggest thank you to
every participant who listened, offered their experiences, asked
thoughtful questions, and took action.

Spotlight: Protect Medicaid Toolkit
We’ve launched a new [ [link removed] ]Protect Medicaid Toolkit designed to make it easy
for you to take online action against the devastating Medicaid cuts! Our
healthcare just took a major hit: Republicans cut around $1 trillion from
Medicaid and added bureaucratic barriers to accessing care. No
administration has ever slashed healthcare as deeply as the budget bill
Republicans passed this summer and President Trump signed into law—and
it’s all to give tax breaks to billionaires and commit human rights abuses
against hardworking immigrants—people who are essential to our care
workforce and our communities.
This is unacceptable, and Republican leaders in Congress need to change
course now! It’s important to speak out so people understand the impact of
these cuts. Here are some ways to show your support for Medicaid and make
your voice heard:
* Share your Medicaid story with your community! You can use our simple
recording tool to record a video, write it out (maybe even both!)
Sharing your story will make a huge difference in helping push elected
leaders (and people within your own community) to understand why
Medicaid is so needed and so important.
* Create and share a custom Medicaid framed photo. Yes, that’s right!
Download a picture of yourself, a family member, and/or friend (with
their consent, of course) and show your support for Medicaid by
customizing it with a unique frame then post it on social media.
* [ [link removed] ]Share these downloadable graphics on social media! The graphics are
available in both English and [ [link removed] ]Spanish, with pre-made captions,
ready to be shared on your social media. Be sure to tag your members
of Congress and use hashtags: #ProtectMedicaid and #CanceltheCuts.
