Friends, breaking news for you this morning — last night, a federal court permanently blocked Trump from deploying the California National Guard to Portland, Oregon.
This ruling is a major win for the rule of law, for our democratic values, and for the American people.
But Trump will continue to push the bounds of his power, so we can’t let up. Please help me continue this work by contributing right now.
Here’s how we got here:
Last month, Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth federalized the Oregon National Guard and deployed them to Portland, using the same unlawful scheme they used to federalize California’s National Guard over the summer.
Then, when the court blocked that attempt, Trump tried to circumvent the order by deploying California National Guard troops to Oregon.
We immediately filed a lawsuit — because Trump is not king, and California’s National Guard is not Trump’s “Royal Guard.”
Now, a court has once again firmly rejected the President’s militarized vision for America’s future.
So what’s next?
First, we cannot become desensitized to the unprecedented and blatantly illegal nature of Trump’s actions. This case was just one part of a broader effort by the President to trample on state sovereignty and reshape the American presidency.
We will celebrate this victory — but with eyes wide open, and with firm resolve to see this fight through to the end.
Be a part of this fight by chipping in whatever you can to help us hold Trump accountable to the law and the Constitution.
