Weekend Reading

Hi Friend,

Our communities are stronger with immigrants. But right now, the Trump administration is detaining and deporting our community members, tearing families apart, and making us all less safe. We refuse to stand by while this happens.

From Dec. 10, International Human Rights Day, through Dec. 18, International Migrants Day, communities across the U.S. are uniting for a Stronger With Immigrants Week of Action. [link removed] Together, we are organizing actions to take a stand for immigrant rights.

Join us! Organize a vigil, rally, or community gathering in your area. Together, we will denounce immigration raids, detention, and deportation—and affirm everyone’s right to safety, belonging, and justice. Learn more and get started. [link removed]

CLIMATE JUSTICE

In New Mexico, farmers unite to face climate change [link removed]
By Sayrah Namaste

For over 50 years, AFSC's New Mexico Program has provided vital support to local farmers. Today, much of our efforts focus on helping farmers work together to build resilience to climate change. When climate disasters strike, this network can serve as a lifeline. AFSC provides farmers with materials and technical support—from solar panels to composting systems. We also connect farmers to learn from one another, sharing traditional practices and innovative solutions. Read more. [link removed]

Artists gather to explore healing from trauma and genocide [link removed]

Earlier this year, 30 African artists from diverse disciplines and regions gathered in Nairobi, Kenya, for several days of discussion on generational collective healing. The convening, titled "The Power of Arts and Culture for Healing," was organized by AFSC and curated by Andani.Africa. Through artist talks, performances, and shared meals, participants explored how art can serve as both healing and resistance. Curator Rashida Bumbray reflects on what she learned about interdependence and transnational solidarity. (Hyperallergic) [link removed]
