JON FLEISCHMAN IS A GUEST ON NATIONAL REVIEW’S CA PODCAST On Thursday I recorded an “Emergency Episode” on National Review’s Radio Free California Podcast. This great weekly podcast that you should have on your favorites is co-hosted by my friends David Bahnsen and Will Swaim. David was traveling so I stepped in and Will and I do a deep dive on the Prop. 50 debacle. Here’s a link (on this page is a player or, if you look carefully, there are links to Apple Podcast and Spotify). STATE OF GOLD: THE OTHER JON INTERVIEWS STATE SENATOR MARIE ALVARADO-GIL So, you can be the judge. I’m in “evaluation mode” on this particular politician. I do not know, nor have I met her. I have had people I respect tell me good things about Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil. But check out this narrative, and you’ll know why I’m — skeptical. In 2022, thanks to the lame top-two election system, two Democrats beat out like six Republicans to head into a Dem-On-Dem runoff in a very red, Trumpy district. Alvarado-Gil was the winner. Of course lighting isn’t going to strike twice, so everyone (including the Senator of course) knew that the Democrat was not getting re-elected there. Lo and behold — the Senator up and decided she had enough with her liberal party and — reregistered as a Republican. Beleaguered Capitol Republican embraced this switch without hesitation - a win! But is the Senator a conservative, who lost faith in her party? Or a self-serving politician, realigning to save her position? There are a couple of life-long Republicans lined up to challenge her in June… Anyways, let’s watch this as we start to form our own opinions… At some point I will connect with her, and share my opinion. So this Saturday column on the things I have found interesting to read is a thank you to our paid subscribers. There is a lot below - more columns and articles, two great charts, a long form article recommendation, a great video — and a bunch of quick hits. And a birthday celebration!
