Dear Friend,
Did you know that over 22 million acres of public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is currently being leased to oil and gas companies? And of the 245 million total acres of land that the BLM manages for the public, less than 20% is protected from fossil fuel development.
You hear us talk about protecting public lands a lot, because it's an important issue. These lands are shared by us -- the public! -- and we want to see them protected in order to benefit wildlife, fragile ecosystems, clean air and water, our history and culture, and access to nature for future generations.
It's unacceptable that our government has already been handing over these precious lands to polluting companies like ExxonMobil, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips. The Public Lands Rule was created to help balance the use of these lands -- but now the Trump administration wants to repeal it.
Send your comment in before the November 10 deadline to show how much we want to keep this rule in place! |
