John,
My name is Liddy Renner, and I am Brady’s Senior State Policy Manager
After I graduated, I became a high school science and health teacher in rural Idaho. I taught students about first-responder skills because, like in many rural areas, emergency response services were volunteer-based and could take a long time to arrive. But I’ll never forget the true reason this was taught in school: I was teaching students how to “stop the bleed,” so that in the event of an active shooter, they could help save their fellow students while they waited for help to arrive.
Instead of teaching my students a typical high school curriculum focused on biology or nutrition, I had to teach them about survival. And frankly, it felt like we were given the often futile task of treating the symptoms of an epidemic — one that kills more than 40,000 Americans a year — rather than focus on treating the actual cause.
These experiences opened my eyes to our nation’s gun violence crisis and led me to pursue a career in public policy. I knew there were policy changes that could actually impact students – for the better – in the classroom.
And that is exactly what Brady’s state policy team is doing.
This year alone, we passed a law in Washington State to require a permit to buy a firearm — one of the most effective solutions to reduce firearm homicide and suicide. In Colorado, we passed a landmark law ensuring that taxpayer dollars are not spent at negligent gun dealers that contribute to our gun violence epidemic. And in New York, we established the Office of Gun Violence Prevention to fund and coordinate programs and solutions to address various forms of gun violence throughout the state.
As you can see, friend, we at Brady are making real progress to combat gun violence in state houses nationwide — an effort that is paramount as the Trump administration continues to attack gun violence prevention solutions federally. And as we go forward, we are prioritizing legislation to increase secure gun storage, improve oversight of gun dealers, and much more.
We are fighting to create a future where teachers no longer have to instruct their students on how to save a life from a gunshot wound or hide from an active shooter.
But we need all the help we can get — and that’s why I’m reaching out to you today, friend. Will you please consider supporting Brady’s state policy team and our work in communities nationwide? Whether you dedicate your time, treasure, or talent, you can fuel our mission to save lives. [[link removed]]

Demand Answers from Trump’s Department of Justice: Protect People, Not Gun Industry Profits
[link removed] [[link removed]]
We need your help right now.
The Trump administration is decimating the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) — making it nearly impossible to adequately oversee gun dealers that break the law and fuel America’s gun violence crisis.
In fact, just recently, it was reported that:
* 80 percent of special agents at the ATF have been pulled from investigations into gun trafficking and other crimes and reassigned to Trump’s immigration enforcement.
* The ATF lost one in every seven investigators who are responsible for inspecting licensed gun dealers to job reductions and retirements AND stands to lose at least 60% of its investigators under Trump’s proposed budget.
The American people deserve to know how the Trump administration plans to keep our communities safe from gun dealers who constantly put profits over human lives. That's why we're demanding answers from Attorney General Pam Bondi following these devastating cuts to the ATF. Are you with us? Sign our letter to Attorney General Bondi demanding that the Trump administration fulfill their legal requirements by adequately resourcing the ATF and protecting the American public — not the gun industry! [link removed] [[link removed]]
This week, Brady partnered with the American Public Health Association (APHA) for the “Rally for the Public's Health” on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.We were joined by healthcare
professionals, gun violence survivors, organizers, and volunteers to call for federal action on the most pressing public health issues facing our country today — including the number one killer of kids and teens in the United States: gun violence.
The day before, Brady President Kris Brown and Brady Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joseph Sakran presented at the APHA’s annual conference — one of the most premier public health conferences in America — to share research on how healthcare professionals can talk to their patients about firearm access and safety, a critical component of our This Is Our Lane campaign.
And just a day earlier, a new report co-authored by Dr. Skaran [[link removed]] was released in one of the world’s most well-respected medical journals, providing a road map to reduce the gun violence crisis by 2040.
"In America, the burden [of addressing gun violence] has often been placed on the shoulders of a few people. What this report is talking about is the collective action that is so critical in order to move the needle forward." – Dr. Sakran
