Dear Friends, In yet another dangerous decision that threatens our national security, President Trump has nominated Retired Brigadier General Anthony Tata to serve as Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. Tata has a history of making controversial, bigoted, racist, and Islamaphobic statements. TELL YOUR SENATORS: OPPOSE GEN. TATA'S NOMINATION In 2018, Tata tweeted that President Obama was a Muslim and a "terrorist leader," and that Islam was the "most oppressive violent religion" he knew of. He called Representative Maxine Waters, an African American woman and champion for racial justice in Congress "a vicious race-baiting racist." He also tweeted to former CIA Director John Brennan that it "Might be a good time to pick your poison: firing squad, public hanging..." Tata is ill-suited for any position in government, let alone the third highest ranking position in the Department of Defense. No one in a position of authority over our service members should ever express bigotry against members of a particular religion, hurl racist slurs at fellow Americans, or call a former President and Commander-in-Chief a terrorist. Please write to your Senators today and tell them to oppose Brig. Gen. Tata's nomination. The nomination has not yet cleared the Senate Armed Services Committee and with your help we can defeat him. Thank you. Sincerely, Matt Hawthorne Policy Director |
