A Landmark Election Night for LGBTQ+ Equality
The 2025 elections delivered major wins for LGBTQ+ candidates and our movement, a clear rebuke of anti-equality rhetoric nationwide. See the full election night tracker here!
In Virginia, Joshua Cole and Lindsey Dougherty secured crucial victories in the House of Delegates, helping expand one of the largest pro-equality majorities the state has seen in decades. Their wins — along with several other endorsed candidates — show that homophobia and transphobia didn’t stop voters from choosing progress.
In Pennsylvania, Erica Deuso made history in Downingtown, becoming one of the few out transgender mayors elected in the U.S and the first in Pennsylvania history! Her community-driven campaign proved once again that when trans people run, they win.
Jim McGreevey (Jersey City Mayor), Alejandra Salinas (Houston City Council), and Thad Flowers (Atlanta City Council) are all heading to runoffs — and will need strong support to get across the finish line in these potentially history-making races.
Ohio voters also elected several Victory Fund-endorsed candidates, and dozens more LGBTQ+ leaders secured wins in local races across the country, demonstrating the momentum of pro-equality leadership at every level of government.
And importantly, many pro-equality allies won their races despite escalating anti-trans attacks — a powerful reminder that voters across the nation are rejecting hate and embracing inclusive leadership.

The petition, led by Kim Davis — the former Kentucky clerk who became a conservative hero after refusing to issue marriage licenses to LGBTQ+ couples — argues the decision was “egregiously wrong.”
Several states have submitted resolutions urging the Court revisit Obergefell. A decision on whether to hear the case could come early next week.
