42 million Americans rely on SNAP benefits for food assistance. Trump is threatening to cut off those benefits — using hungry children, veterans, and seniors — as a political bargaining chip in shutdown negotiations. He wants to force people to go hungry until he gets his way.

After a judge ordered Donald Trump to make SNAP payments, the wannabe king declared he would block SNAP benefits. In other words, he’s threatening to defy a court order, break the law, and delay payments.

I’m fighting back on this. I’m fighting to ensure Trump follows the law and these payments get to the families who rely on them ASAP. While that happens, millions are living in limbo and food banks have been overwhelmed during the chaos.

This crisis will reach every state. It will require all of us to step up and link arms to protect people at risk of going hungry.

I want to be very clear: Donald Trump has made the decision to let people across this country go hungry.

The funding for SNAP is available and was approved by Congress.

But Trump’s telling fifteen million hungry children: Eat dirt.

He’s telling a million hungry veterans: Eat dirt.

He’s telling eight million seniors: Eat dirt.

That’s how little Donald Trump cares about the children, veterans, seniors, and people in this country.

Meanwhile Trump has no problem finding money for the things he cares about. He’s managed to round up millions for a gold-encrusted ballroom, for Argentina’s bailout, and a Great Gatsby-inspired Halloween party. But he’s withholding funding to keep people in our country fed.

This is a manufactured hunger crisis created by Donald Trump.

I’m fighting back and pulling every lever I can to get this funding to families. One important action we can take right now is to support food assistance programs across the country that are standing in the gap and getting families the support they need right now.
