Catching Up with Quigley: Week In Review

Dear John,

Trump's horrific ICE raids continued in Chicago this week. Here are three things I did to help fight back against this administration.

1. Defended a Preschool Teacher Abducted by ICE

On Wednesday morning, federal ICE agents violently entered Rayito de Sol daycare and arrested a teacher without a warrant, in front of children and parents.

I hosted a press conference alongside Congresswoman Ramirez, Commissioner Degnen, Alderman Vazquez, and other officials following the incident. We also heard from Maria Guzman, a parent at Rayito de Sol, about how traumatizing this was for the children. We also joined Alderman Martin for a rally at Northcenter Town Square that evening in support of the teacher.

Trump and his deputies claim they are going after the worst of the worst, but they're targeting teachers, painters, laborers, parents, and anyone who fits their profile.

I have called for an Inspector General investigation into ICE’s misconduct and will continue to document their egregious behavior until they are held to account. We know the truth in Chicago – and I’m going to keep holding press conferences and highlighting these horrible stories until the rest of country knows the truth too.

2. Attended Commissioner Degnen's Know Your Rights Training

I also attended a Know Your Rights training this week at Roosevelt High School, led by Commissioner Bridget Degnen. Alongside other local elected officials, we provided information to show how people can protect themselves from ICE.

I want to thank the Commissioner for inviting me — and for her continued dedication to our community.

3. Distributed Food During SNAP Freeze

I also joined the team at Saint Sabina Church to distribute food to our neighbors this week. Under the Republican Shutdown, SNAP benefits have been frozen and Trump has yet to deploy emergency funds to continue them. That means more people are going hungry.

I continue to call on my Republican colleagues to end the shutdown and resume SNAP benefits as soon as possible.
