One of my greatest honors is representing the men and women who wore the uniform and defended our nation. When you sent me to Washington, I promised to fight for our veterans, and I work to keep that promise every single day.
Veterans Day has been observed since 1919, when our nation first paused to recognize the courage and sacrifice of those who served. More than a century later, that commitment to honor our veterans has not changed and it never should. We owe our freedom to those who stepped forward to defend it.
This day is personal for me. My father, a proud member of the Greatest Generation, served in World War II in the Pacific. He taught me what service, sacrifice, and love of country truly look like. I carry those lessons with me, and they guide the work I do on your behalf.
America remains the land of the free because of the brave. Our military, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Space Force, and Coast Guard, is the finest fighting force the world has ever known. For generations, our service members have stood guard so the next generation could grow up in freedom. It is our duty as a nation to honor that legacy, protect it, and pass it on. The freedoms they fought for are not guaranteed unless we work to preserve them with the same courage and commitment they showed in defending them.
To every veteran and every military family: thank you. We owe you a debt we can never fully repay.
YOUR office is here to serve those who served us. If you need assistance with VA benefits, healthcare, military records, or accessing medals you earned, please reach out. It is our responsibility and privilege to support you.
God bless you, and God bless the United States of America!

The Schumer Shutdown continues and the effects are now hitting families, travelers, and essential federal services across the country. The Federal Aviation Administration has announced it will be forced to reduce flight capacity by 10 percent at 40 major U.S. airports if funding is not restored. Just this past week, 2,740 flights were disrupted nationwide, leaving travelers facing cancellations, long delays, and uncertainty as they try to visit loved ones. Air traffic controllers, TSA officers, and other essential personnel are still reporting for duty without pay, and airports across the country are preparing for significant operational strain if the shutdown persists.
The nation’s largest nutrition assistance program, SNAP, has also been pulled into this unnecessary standoff. A federal judge ordered the Trump Administration to release full November SNAP benefits after concerns that millions of Americans would receive only a portion of what they rely on. It is important to note that Emergency SNAP reserve funds were created for true national crises — wartime, natural disasters, or catastrophic national emergencies — not to bail out Congressional Democrats who knowingly shut down the government and are now demanding emergency funds to clean up the consequences of their own actions.
These hardships did not have to occur. Congressional Republicans have voted more than a dozen times on responsible funding measures to keep the government open and protect essential services. Americans deserve better than political games that jeopardize travel, food security, and basic government functions.
I have also taken a step that every elected official should take during a shutdown. I formally requested that my salary be withheld until federal funding is restored and the government is reopened. If Congress expects hardworking Americans and federal employees to shoulder uncertainty, then Members of Congress should not be collecting a paycheck. Public service is a duty, not a benefit, and I will not take pay while families, small businesses, and federal workers feel the strain of Washington’s dysfunction.
I will continue working for the great people of Texas’ 14th District throughout this shutdown. If you need help with any federal agency or assistance during this time, please contact YOUR office at (202) 225-2831.

In the United States Senate, you cannot pass most bills with a simple majority alone. Before a final passage can happen, the Senate has to agree to stop debating and move forward. That requires 60 senators to agree. If there are not 60 votes, the bill is put on hold. This is what most people know as the filibuster.
Because of that 60-vote rule, 53 Senate Republicans cannot reopen the government on their own. At least 7 more Senate Democrats are needed to join us in order to move a funding bill forward. Until that happens, the shutdown continues.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported 30,561 total border encounters in October, the lowest October on record and the weakest start to a fiscal year in U.S. history. That is a nearly 79 percent drop from October 2024.
This decline is not an accident. It is the result of a shift back toward strong enforcement policies, increased manpower on the ground, and stricter consequences for unlawful entry. CBP has expanded coordinated patrols at high-traffic crossing points, increased expedited removal proceedings, and strengthened cooperation with state and local law enforcement. For the sixth month in a row, CBP reports zero releases of migrants into the United States to await future court dates. That is a major change from the disastrous catch-and-release policies of the Biden Administration.
These are steps in the right direction, and I commend the men and women of CBP who work around the clock to defend this nation. They deserve the tools, staffing, and policies necessary to keep America secure.
As your Representative, I am supporting legislation that secures the border: - Border Safety and Security Act of 2025: Grants the Secretary of Homeland Security the authority to suspend entry of non-U.S. nationals when DHS does not have the capacity to detain or remove them. It also allows states to hold Washington accountable in court if the law is ignored.
- REMAIN in Mexico Act of 2025: Requires DHS to reinstate the Migrant Protection Protocols, ensuring that asylum seekers wait in Mexico while their claims are processed. This was one of the most effective tools ever implemented to deter illegal immigration, and it must be restored.
These policies work because they enforce the law and remove the incentives driving illegal entry. To keep this downward trend going, we must: - Finish the wall and reinforce priority areas.
- Permanently end catch and release.
- Expand expedited removals and interior enforcement of criminal illegal aliens.
- Remove taxpayer-funded incentives that draw illegal immigration.
- Back the men and women of CBP with equipment, personnel support, and clear authority.
Texas has carried the burden of Washington’s border failures for far too long. I will continue fighting until our border is secured, our laws are respected, and American families come first.

The Supreme Court delivered a major win for common sense this week. In a 6–3 decision, the Court upheld the federal government’s authority to list biological sex on U.S. passports, rejecting a challenge demanding that passports include a third gender option.
A passport is an official federal document that records a legal fact, not a self-chosen identity. This ruling reinforces what most Americans already know to be true. There are two sexes. Male and female. That has been the standard of our society, our laws, and our institutions since the founding of this country.
This decision aligns with President Trump’s Executive Order on Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government. The Trump Administration is restoring accuracy and clarity to federal policy by ensuring that federal agencies, programs, and documents are grounded in biological fact.
Here is what the Trump Administration is implementing across the federal government: - Federal laws, programs, and records will define sex based on biological reality.
- Women’s spaces, sports, and protections will be preserved as single-sex, as intended.
- Federal agencies will roll back policies that blurred legal and biological distinctions.
- Official documents will return to clear, factual sex markers, including passports.
This is a major course correction after years of the federal government being pressured to abandon truth for activism. The Supreme Court’s ruling and President Trump’s executive actions ensure that our country returns to the standard that 80% of Americans agree with. The remaining 20% may be loud, but they do not speak for American families.
This is a win for truth and a win for the American people.

My Beautiful Bride and I celebrated 49 years of marriage this week, and it was a blessing to spend that milestone here at home serving YOU! Thank you all for the warm kindness shown by so many! We joined the GridStor ribbon cutting in Galveston, a project that strengthens Texas energy reliability and supports local jobs. We then attended the opening of Cruise Terminal 16, which will bring more visitors, boost our economy, and help cement Galveston as a leader in America’s cruise industry.
Team Weber joined the Gulf Coast Transit District for the unveiling of the new Veterans’ Bus, expanding transportation access for the men and women who served our nation. The team also supported law enforcement at Denim, Diamonds, and Daubers, standing with the Law Enforcement Alliance for Galveston County and the officers who keep our families safe.
Another special moment this week came when District Director, Jared Bargas, spoke to the Galveston Island Pachyderm Club. Jared shared reflections from his 25 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserve!
