Celebrate America Recycles Day in Fort Worth!

Join the City of Fort Worth in celebrating America Recycles Day! Starting Sunday, Nov. 9, our friends at the Fort Worth Public Library are kicking off the fun with a week full of engaging, family-friendly activities that make learning about recycling enjoyable for people of all ages.

Continue the celebration on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 am to 12 pm, with the Environmental Services Department as they host America Recycles Day events at the Golden Triangle Library [ [link removed] ] and Vivian J. Lincoln Library [ [link removed] ]. Guests can enjoy:


* Live recycling demonstrations.
* Interactive booths with recycling education.
* Promotional giveaways and prizes.
* A special guest appearance from WM.

Recycling is more than a one-day event – it’s an everyday commitment shared by residents, local businesses, and City partners. Whether you are learning at a library event or recycling at home, every action helps Fort Worth be clean and sustainable.

Grand Opening of WM's Recycling Facility

Keep Fort Worth Beautiful joined WM, City leaders, and community partners on Oct. 28 to celebrate the grand opening of WM’s new state-of-the-art Material Recovery Facility (MRF). The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Mattie Parker and marked a significant step forward in Fort Worth’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and responsible waste management.

During the ceremony, WM highlighted how the advanced facility will improve recycling efficiency, reduce contamination, and increase the amount of material that can be recovered and reused. Attendees at the ceremony toured the facility to see the recycling process firsthand — from materials arriving on trucks to being separated, cleaned and prepared for reuse.

*Why Recycling Matters*

Recycling plays a vital role in conserving natural resources, saving energy and reducing waste. Fort Worth residents can help make this system work effectively by recycling the right materials — clean paper, cardboard, cans and bottles — and keeping trash, food waste and plastic bags out of the blue cart.

Volunteers Make a Big Impact at the 2025 Neighborhood Litter Stomp!​

On Saturday, October 11, volunteers across Fort Worth joined the 2025 Neighborhood Litter Stomp. A total of *2,147 volunteers* collected *34,913 pounds of litter* from neighborhoods citywide, helping keep Fort Worth clean and beautiful.

This year, scrap tire collections were added to the event. With the help of the Environmental Services Department, KFWB successfully accepted and safely disposed of 26 old tires.

Holiday Cease the Grease Banner
Cease the Grease this Holiday

As the holiday season kicks off, many Fort Worth residents are gearing up for gatherings with family and friends. Festive meals add to the fun, but also means a lot of fats, oils and grease, otherwise known as FOGs. When cooking for get-togethers with loved ones, don’t pour those FOGs down the kitchen sink drain.

When FOGs go down the drain, they can build up and harden in pipes, which can cause blockage, sewage overflows, pipe bursts, and home flooding. Instead, take advantage of the annual Holiday Grease Roundup, and turn those fats, oils and grease into reusable resources! The City's Environmental Collection Center and four Drop-Off Stations are currently accepting sealed containers/jars of used fats, cooking oils and grease through January 25, 2026.

*Tips to help dispose of FOGs the right way:*


* For larger amounts, let grease cool then pour or scrape it into a sealable container to make transporting easier.
* For small amounts, wipe up FOGs with a paper towel and place in the garbage.
* Compost your food scraps instead of relying on the garbage disposal.

Properly disposing of FOGs can prevent costly plumbing issues and allows for them to be repurposed for other uses – keeping Fort Worth’s pipes (and holidays) running smoothly. Get Ready for the 2025 GM Financial Parade of Lights

On Sunday, Nov. 23, downtown Fort Worth will shine bright as the 2025 GM Financial Parade of Lights returns for its 47th year of holiday cheer. Since 1983, this beloved tradition has brought families together to celebrate the magic of the season and Keep Fort Worth Beautiful is proud to join in once again.

As illuminated floats and marching bands fill the streets, one of our City street sweepers will make its annual appearance, decked out in festive lights, representing the hardworking crews who keep our City streets clean year-round. Cowtown Air Matters:
What You Should Know About Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)

In Fort Worth, our Air Quality teams work year-round to monitor ozone levels – particularly Nitrogen Oxides (NOx). NOx is a group of reactive gases produced when fossil fuels are burned, mainly in cars, trucks, industrial facilities, and power plants. In sunlight, NOx reacts with other airborne elements to create ground-level ozone (smog) and fine particles that make our air harder to breathe.

Air Quality

The peak season for ozone runs from March through November, but air quality is monitored year-round for seasonal changes. During this period, elevated ozone levels can affect everyone — especially children, older adults, and people with asthma or other respiratory conditions. When ozone levels are high, regional air quality alerts are issued to remind residents to limit outdoor activities and reduce emissions whenever possible.

*You can help improve Fort Worth’s air quality through small, everyday choices:*


* Drive less: carpool, combine errands, use public transit, or work remotely when possible.
* Maintain your vehicle with regular tune-ups and tire checks.
* Avoid idling and rush-hour driving when you can.
* Choose cleaner options like electric or hybrid vehicles, energy-efficient appliances, and electric yard tools.
* Avoid outdoor burning and limit the use of gas-powered equipment.

Across the Dallas–Fort Worth region, NOx pollution is one of the largest contributors to elevated ozone levels. As our metroplex continues to grow — with more people, vehicles, and development — air quality becomes a shared responsibility among cities, agencies, and residents alike.
