This week, 34-year-old democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani shocked the
political establishment by winning the general election for Mayor of New
York City!
We congratulate Zohran on his resounding victory: he ran a groundbreaking,
people-powered campaign that won despite being considerably outspent in
the race by billionaires and corporate megadonors.
Zohran defeated a Trump-backed political dynasty by running on a bold,
positive vision for the city centered on lowering costs and improving
daily life for working-class New Yorkers.
And he did it without taking money from the for-profit health care
industry!

Zohran took our Patients Over Profits pledge during his campaign,
committing to reject campaign contributions of $200 or more from the
executives, lobbyists, and PACs affiliated with the corporate health care
industry, including private insurers, pharma corporations, and private
hospitals who are organizing to take over our health care system.
We started the Patients Over Profits pledge because for too long, the
corporate health care industry has spent billions of dollars influencing
politicians and candidates running for office to stand in the way of
health care reform that would prioritize patients over the endless pursuit
of profit.
The more political candidates who sign our pledge and reject this money,
the stronger our movement to guarantee universal health care to everyone
in this country by passing Medicare for All.
If you know an elected official or someone running for office, encourage
them to take the Patients Over Profits pledge at:

Together, let’s keep up the momentum and elect more health care justice
champions to positions of power at every level across the United States.
