Greetings!

I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives.

Today marks Day 38 of the government shutdown, now the longest in American history. The consequences are real. With the holiday season quickly approaching, millions of Americans are preparing to travel across the country to be with their family and loved ones. But this year, because of the Democrat Government Shutdown, air travel could be more challenging than ever.

Democrats continue to force thousands of air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers to work without pay, further straining an already short-staffed system. U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy announced that beginning today, 40 major airports, including William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), will face a 10% reduction in flight volume. This is being done to reduce strain on the system and ensure passenger safety, based on data. You can find the airports where flight volume will be reduced HERE. 

Families shouldn’t worry about flight delays or cancellations. They deserve to have a safe, efficient, and reliable travel experience. While our airspace remains safe, flight delays are expected to get worse as the shutdown continues.

This madness could be ended today if at least five Senate Democrats would do the right thing and vote to pass the clean continuing resolution and reopen the government.

Democrats need to end this shutdown and quit holding the American people hostage, especially ahead of a busy holiday travel season.

United States Senate Unanimously Passes Rep. Troy E. Nehls' Medal of Honor Act

This week, the United States Senate passed my bill, the Medal of Honor Act, by unanimous consent.

Currently, Medal of Honor recipients receive a special pension of $16,880.76 annually, or just $1,406.73 per month. My bipartisan bill increases this pension to around $67,500 annually —a nearly fourfold increase —and is fully offset. There are just 61 living Medal of Honor recipients. They don't ask for recognition or demand special treatment. They are selfless heroes who embody the best of our country. The least Congress can do is ease the financial burdens of these heroes by raising their well-deserved annual pension. 

Thank you to my Texas Republican colleague, Senator Ted Cruz, for championing this initiative in the Senate. I look forward to President Donald J. Trump signing my bill into law.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Joins Colleagues in Sending Letter to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Demanding He Reopens the Government

Across the country, law enforcement officers, Border Patrol agents, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers, and Air Traffic Controllers are continuing to show up for duty without pay. These are the men and women who keep our borders secure and our skies safe, and many of them are now being forced to turn to food banks to feed their families.



That’s unacceptable.

As a former Sheriff, I’ve seen firsthand the sacrifice these public safety professionals make to keep our communities safe. I know what it means to serve and the sacrifices law enforcement personnel make to serve our communities and country. That’s why I joined my colleagues in signing a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, demanding that he end this shutdown and pay our public safety professionals what they’ve earned.

On September 19, 2025, I voted to keep the government open and fully fund these critical services. House Republicans did our job, Senate Democrats have blocked that same clean, no-strings-attached funding bill 14 times. The longer the shutdown lasts, the more Americans suffer, all because Democrats refuse to pass the same clean continuing resolution they voted for more than 10 times under the Biden Administration.
