New Democrat Coalition Chair Brad Schneider (IL-10) issued a statement following the news that Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi will not seek reelection in 2026, thanking her for a lifetime of public service and leadership in the House of Representatives.
“The 116 Members of the New Democrat Coalition proudly honor and celebrate the service and legacy of Nancy Pelosi, not just as a historic and extraordinary leader, but as a friend and support to all those who seek to follow her example and break through barriers to serve their country. She is an inspiration to all of us and will no doubt inspire future leaders for generations to come.
“When Speaker Emerita Pelosi first ran for Congress nearly 40 years ago, she united the people of San Francisco under a simple slogan and a promise: ‘A Voice that Will be Heard.’ In the four decades since her first election, Speaker Pelosi lent her powerful voice to an entire nation, fulfilling her promise to her hometown and the American people by fighting tirelessly to improve their lives and uplift our country.
“Speaker Emerita Pelosi’s historic first tenure as Speaker of the House was defined by her steadfast leadership in pursuit of progress. From spearheading recovery efforts in the wake of the Great Recession to passing the landmark Affordable Care Act, Pelosi oversaw one of the most productive stretches in the history of Congress. Her second tenure as Speaker was marked by overwhelming challenges – a global pandemic, two impeachments, an insurrection – that she met with unending resolve, uniting her Democratic colleagues in times of crisis to defend the lives, security, and fundamental rights of the American people.
“Thank you, Madam Speaker.”

New Democrat Coalition Trade & Tariffs Task Force Chair Don Beyer (VA-08) issued a statement following the conclusion of oral arguments in the Supreme Court in a case challenging the limits of the President’s emergency powers under IEEPA.
“The power to levy taxes lies solely with Congress. Yet for months, the President has disregarded the Constitution and invoked emergency powers to unilaterally impose sweeping tariffs without credible reason or cause, crushing the American people under these new taxes to help pay for giveaways to his wealthy friends.
“The Supreme Court has a duty to uphold the law, limit the damage of the President’s nonsensical global trade war, and roll back this unprecedented and illegal power grab. The economic stagnation, job losses, business closures, and higher prices stemming from Trump’s taxes must end. New Dems urge the Supreme Court to take decisive action to block this lawless campaign and restore order to the balance of powers and the American economy.”

“...They have no money, they have no anything, they’re fighting so hard to survive…” - President Trump, October 19th
If you haven’t been following the news out of the Trump administration over the past few weeks, you might think that this quote from the President was directed to the many millions of Americans struggling with rising prices and persistent inflation ([link removed]) driven by Trump’s trade war , or victims of a massive spike ([link removed]) in layoffs fueled by economic downturn and Trump’s rampant firing of federal workers.
It would be reasonable to assume Trump was addressing the more than 40 million Americans – including 16 million children – who receive SNAP food assistance each month and are at risk of going hungry after the Administration defied a court order and are holding SNAP funding hostage ([link removed]) during their Republican shutdown. This comes after Congressional Republicans slashed $186 billion ([link removed]) from the SNAP program in their Big Ugly Law to fund tax cuts for billionaires.

The New Democrat Coalition released two installments of The Fly-In: Shorts ([link removed]) , a mini-series of the podcast co-hosted by Reps. Greg Landsman (OH-01) and Marc Veasey (TX-33).
The episodes contain conversations between Reps. Landsman and Veasey and small business owners in their districts.
First, Rep. Landsman spoke to Kristen Bailey, owner of Cincinnati-based food truck and caterer Sweets & Meats. Kristen, who has been running her small business alongside her husband since 2014, detailed some of the challenges she is facing such as the increased costs of running a small business and the struggle to keep prices consistent amid rising inflation. She also shared her personal concerns about being able to afford health care, which she currently gets through the Affordable Care Act, and how rising health care costs may force her to close the business that she loves.
Rep. Veasey met with Nancy Galvan, owner of Unica Janitorial Enterprises. Nancy founded Unica in 2007 and has grown her business from a part-time janitorial service to what it is today, offering custodial operations across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Since many of her cleaning contracts are for federal buildings, Nancy explained how the government shutdown is impacting her business and will continue to cause pain down the line. They also discuss how she and other entrepreneurs are struggling to keep their small businesses open due to inflation and rising insurance costs.
