Governor Kelly Announces Kansans Will Receive Full November SNAP Benefits
~~Kansas SNAP recipients can expect to see November benefits on their EBT cards on Nov. 7~~
TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly announced today that the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) has begun processing full November benefits to Kansans receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Food Assistance. The process to get benefits added to Kansas Benefits Cards (also called an EBT card) is underway and beneficiaries should have access to their benefits by the end of the day on Friday, Nov. 7.
“Kansans can rest assured that we are moving quickly to disburse full November SNAP benefits,” said Governor Laura Kelly. “I’m pleased that these benefits will be issued in full and I hope that it is a sign that the shutdown will end soon so Kansas families do not go through this uncertainty again in December.”
This includes a total distribution of more than $31.6 million to approximately 86,000 Kansas households. All current Kansas beneficiaries will receive benefits on Nov. 7 instead of the typical monthly issuances that are staggered over a 10-day period according to last name.
“This is great news for the thousands of Kansans who rely on this assistance to help put nutritious food on their tables,” DCF Secretary Laura Howard said. “I’m incredibly proud of how quickly the DCF team has been able to process multiple changes to the November benefits amount, work with our benefits processing partners to make adjustments and ultimately get this critical assistance out to Kansans as quickly as possible.”
On October 28, Governor Laura Kelly joined a lawsuit against the USDA for unlawfully suspending the SNAP program. The issuance of full November benefits comes after a federal judge ruled on Thursday, Nov. 6, the federal government must fully fund SNAP for November. Prior to that, November benefits were expected to be partial payments based on updated guidance and a reduction table from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA sent its first guidance on Tuesday, Nov. 4, followed by updated guidance for partial payments on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
With the ongoing federal government shutdown, December SNAP benefits remain uncertain.
