Governor Kelly Hosts Sixth ‘The People’s Budget’ Tour Stop in Emporia
~~Nearly 80 Kansans Join Governor to Discuss Fiscal Responsibility, Contribute 179 Pounds to Food Drive~~
EMPORIA – On Thursday, Governor Laura Kelly hosted the sixth stop on her statewide listening tour, ‘The People’s Budget’, in Emporia. Joined by Adam Proffitt, Director of the Budget/Secretary of the Kansas Department of Administration, and nearly 80 Kansans, Governor Kelly’s town hall style event highlighted the governor’s continued work to prioritize fiscal stability in Kansas.
“Kansans in Emporia reiterated many of the same priorities I’ve heard around the state throughout The People’s Budget tour,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “From fully funding our public schools to investing in health care in our rural communities, I appreciated hearing from those who attended as I work to build another balanced budget proposal.”
In Emporia, Kansans continued the trend that has dominated the tour by asking Governor Kelly to continue fully funding public education and increase funding for special education. Kansans also spoke to the governor about boosting access to health care in rural areas and expanding Medicaid, investing in transportation, providing free school lunches to students, and supporting both Kansans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and the I/DD workforce.
Governor Kelly has modified ‘The People’s Budget’ tour to also double as a food drive in partnership with the Kansas Food Bank and Harvesters – The Community Food Network. In Emporia, Kansans donated 179 pounds of non-perishable food items to the Salvation Army Food Pantry. Kansans planning to donate food at future events can find additional information about in-demand items here.
