Dear Friend,
As the Deputy Managing Attorney for Earthjustice’s Alaska office, I’ve fought to protect the Arctic for nearly 20 years. Today, I want to tell you about the threats to the Arctic, how we’re fighting back, and why I’m asking for your help.
I won’t sugarcoat it: The Arctic today faces greater threats than ever before.
The Trump administration recently opened the entire 1.56 million acres of the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas leasing and reinstated unlawful leases in the Refuge covering over 365,000 acres. It is also working on plans to roll back protections in the Western Arctic, including in vitally important areas like Teshekpuk Lake where oil companies are eager to expand. As early as this winter, the administration plans to offer lease sales in the Western Arctic, and approve destructive drilling and seismic surveying.
Taken together, it’s a plan for unprecedented new drilling that the Arctic — and our planet — cannot afford.
We will never stop fighting to protect the Arctic, in court and in Congress.
In April, I flew to Washington, D.C. and had the opportunity to support our Gwich’in partners as they educated Congresspeople through dance, song, and passionate testimony about the cultural and ecological importance of the Arctic Refuge. Alongside these and other allies, we successfully lobbied Congress to remove some of the worst Arctic-related provisions of Trump’s budget bill.
During the last Trump administration, an Earthjustice lawsuit stopped new Arctic leases from going into effect until they were eventually cancelled by the Biden administration.
My team has fought dozens of cases to protect the Arctic. The law — and justice — is on our side. So when this administration unlawfully tries to sell off the Arctic for fossil fuels, we’ll see them in court.
We can’t win this fight alone.
We are honored to work alongside our clients and partners in Alaska, who we rely on for their guidance and expertise.
In every case, we represent our clients free of charge, so we rely on donors like you to help fund our lawsuits.
Together, we are powerful enough to stand up to the Trump administration. If you can donate today, your support will help us fight back and protect the Arctic.

The Arctic holds irreplaceable wildlife, wilderness, and cultural values. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and vast portions of the Western Arctic have never seen industrialization.
Herds of caribou and flocks of migratory birds travel the landscape. Endangered polar bears, wolverines, and arctic foxes call these public lands home. But it is a fragile ecosystem.
The Arctic is warming 3-5 times faster than the rest of the planet.
And new threats of fossil fuel extraction threaten traditional Tribal practices.
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and Western Arctic contain the largest areas of undeveloped public land in the country – but we must defend it now if we intend to pass it on to future generations.
You can take action to tell the Trump administration not to harm the Arctic. [link removed]
And, if you contribute to our litigation efforts, your gift will be matched to double your impact.
Every lawsuit we file is funded by donors just like you. Give today and help support our lawsuits, fight back against the Trump administration, and protect the Arctic.
