In a time of immense wealth, where the billionaire class has more money than they know what to do with, it’s a disgrace that working people are paid so little that they have to rely on SNAP to survive each day.

In the past few weeks, folks have been forced to decide between paying rent and getting enough food for their kids. Food banks are seeing a surge in demand and are struggling to keep up. Some have to reckon with whether driving to a food pantry is even worth the gas money.

What’s worse is that SNAP funding was untouched in past government shutdowns. Which means that Trump is making a deliberate choice to underfund this program to try to punish Democrats for holding the line on protecting the Affordable Care Act.

The food security of tens of millions shouldn’t be a pawn in Trump’s political game. It should be off limits.
