Wednesday officially marked the longest government shutdown in American history – it’s a shameful milestone in our nation’s history that could have been avoided. It is not a secret, nor a surprise, of how we got to this point. The House did its job and passed the clean, nonpartisan, non-controversial Continuing Resolution (CR) to the fund the government, and Democrats in the House and the Senate voted against it. Republicans were the ones, and still are the ones, who continue to vote in favor of it. The contrast here could not be clearer.

As of this week, Democrats have voted 15 times in a row to block this clean CR even though they understand it’s hurting Americans across the entire nation. And, what’s particularly egregious, is that they’ve taken to national television every week to gaslight the American people. As Speaker Johnson put very plainly this week in a press conference held on the capitol steps, this is one of the most shameless displays of political deception that we have ever seen. Republicans have laid out the facts every single day and every single week since this Democrat government shutdown started – we have all the receipts, and we’ve given all the proof that Americans need so that they know the truth.

And as a reminder, here are just a few examples of what voting against the clean CR means:

• Denying pay for American troops.
• Denying pay for air traffic controllers.
• Denying pay for TSA and border patrol agents.
• Freezing SNAP benefits. 
• Crippling hardworking Americans and their families.

Here’s a simple question: at what point do Democrats put aside their partisan, political, and misguided priorities and just do the right thing? They’ve shown that they care more about their own political careers than serving the people they claim to represent. Every day that this government shutdown continues, they continue to prove this to be true. 

ICYMI: The Autopen Report

In case you missed it, the House Oversight Committee recently released its report titled “The Biden Autopen Presidency: Decline, Delusion, and Deception in the White House”. The report details how many individuals on President Biden’s staff – such as top advisors, his own physician, and others – played a role in concealing his mental and physical decline. In short, this report exposes how President Biden’s former aides illegally assumed presidential authority and exercised executive actions without his direct authorization. As Chairman Comer previously stated, the Biden Autopen Presidency will go down as one of the biggest political scandals in U.S. history.

A Piece of American History

In December of 1776, Thomas Paine, one of America’s Founding Fathers and an influential author, penned his first essay as part of a series called "The American Crisis". You may already know of Thomas Paine through one of his more famous pamphlets titled “Common Sense”. His purpose in writing these essays was simple: he understood that morale among American soldiers at the outset of the Revolutionary War was diminished, and he wanted to change that in a positive way. Over the course of seven years, he penned 13 separate essays that played pivotal roles in rallying American soldiers and renewing their hope and optimism.
