After the Democratic establishment spent years shouting, “Vote blue no matter who,” many party leaders showed their hypocrisy when they refused to endorse Zohran Mamdani in New York’s mayoral race.

The biggest culprit? Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Sen. Schumer is the most senior Democratic leader in power right now — but after spending years lecturing progressives for criticizing or refusing to support corporate Democrats, he failed to endorse the official Democratic nominee for mayor in the very city he lives in. Pathetic.

Even after Zohran beat Trump-endorsed sexual predator Andrew Cuomo in Tuesday’s general election, Schumer would not disclose who he voted for, saying:

“Look, I voted, and I look forward to working with the next mayor to help New York City.”

It’s obvious why Schumer wouldn’t get behind Zohran: the out-of-touch member of the Democratic old guard who has spent a career as the darling of Wall Street is more committed to his corporate megadonors and AIPAC than his own constituents.

After a year of watching Schumer’s failed leadership act as a doormat to Republican authoritarianism, New Yorkers and Democrats everywhere deserve better. That’s why it’s time to primary Schumer.
