In 2019, Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger were roommates in Washington, D.C. as freshmen congresswomen. Now, they're both the governor-elect in New Jersey and Virginia.

Since their first congressional victories in the 2018 midterms to Tuesday's history-making gubernatorial elections, EMILYs List has stood by Abigail and Mikie every step of the way, and we're so proud to see them lead as governors.

Abigail and Mikie represent the next generation of Democratic leadership, and they're both powerful models of what it looks like to run and win in tough races.

Last November, Donald Trump was only six points away from winning New Jersey and just five points away from winning Virginia. But Abigail and Mikie both won their races by more than TEN points.

These victories set the trend for 2026, 2028, and beyond. Abigail and Mikie's successes give us a blueprint for how to go forward, and we’re already using what we've learned to recruit and support the next generation of Democratic pro-choice women running to take back the U.S. House next year.
