John,

Last year, Donald Trump sued CBS News for supposedly “deceptively editing” a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris.

It was a frivolous claim—but Paramount, CBS’s parent company, caved anyway. They paid Trump $16 million and got what they really wanted: approval for their $8 billion merger from Trump’s FCC. [[link removed]]

Now, months later, CBS has aired its first Trump interview since that payout.

And what did they do? They edited the interview heavily to make Trump and CBS appeared in a better light.

The CBS Trump interview is the definition of hypocrisy. We’ll explain why in a moment, but at a time when legacy outlets are rolling over for Trump, your support for fearless, independent media like COURIER has never mattered more.

We’re one of the fastest-growing progressive news networks in the country and we depend on your support to make sure accountability and truth survive this moment: [[link removed]]

Once a paragon for American journalism, last night’s interview makes it clear that CBS News has been utterly captured by Trump:

The unedited 60 Minutes interview posted online revealed exactly what the broadcast cut out — the moments when Trump bragged that CBS had “paid me a lotta money,” lavished praise on the Ellison family , the new billionaire owners of the network, and flattered Bari Weiss , the Trump-aligned pundit they installed to run CBS News.

Trump knows he ended CBS News. He said it to their faces: “You’ve got great new ownership. I like where this network is headed.”

And the direction couldn’t be clearer. The Ellisons — led by David Ellison, son of Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison, one of Trump’s most outspoken allies in Silicon Valley — now control Skydance Media, the company that merged with Paramount to take charge of CBS.

Once a watchdog of power, CBS News now sits at Trump’s knee.

At COURIER, we will never bow to Trump or the billionaires who bankroll him. Our obligation is to democracy and the communities we serve.

We’re independent, grassroots-powered, and fearless enough to print the parts the networks cut.

If you believe in fearless, independent journalism that refuses to be silenced, please chip in whatever you can today: [[link removed]]
