Hi John, For the first time since 2017, famine has been declared — and now it’s happened twice this year. Just this week, the United Nations declared that the crisis in Sudan has reached the threshold of famine. “We haven’t eaten in days.” A phrase heard often in places impacted by famine. Crops are withered and market shelves are bare as people cry out that someone — anyone — would help before it is too late. This is what famine looks like. Not just hunger. Not just scarcity. But complete collapse — when families have nothing left to eat and people begin to die. When famine is declared, it’s not a warning — it’s confirmation that an entire community is already in crisis.

Right now, Unto teams are working with trusted local partners to deliver emergency meals to people facing extreme hunger. Every meal you provide offers both lifesaving nutrition and the hope of Jesus in the midst of unimaginable suffering. The purpose of declaring famine is to alert the world before it's too late. The world is asking for help. What would it look like for Christians to respond? And to respond more generously than ever before. To meet a need in Jesus' name. "The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor." Proverbs 22:9 Let’s show these families they have not been forgotten. Together we can push back hunger — and share the HOPE that endures even in the darkest hour.
Serving together,
P.S. Famine declarations are extremely rare, and it has happened twice in 2025. Please don’t wait to help provide meals. Every moment and every gift matters. |
