Right now, over 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, and that number continues to rise. If this disease has impacted you or someone you love, you know how painful this journey can be — especially for the nearly 12 million family members and friends acting as unpaid caregivers. They make sacrifices each day to ensure the safety of their loved ones. During National Family Caregivers Month, you have the chance to honor these selfless individuals because your gift by November 17 can make triple the impact during our Power Our Progress 3X Match.
There is so much to look forward to as we begin the holiday season. But for those facing Alzheimer's or another dementia, the days and months ahead will be filled with a sense of sadness, disappointment and stress. This can be especially true for caregivers as they take on extra responsibilities to ensure the safety of their loved one, all while trying to maintain traditions and create happy memories for the family.
The Alzheimer's Association is here for caregivers day and night, 365 days a year. As we enter the holiday season, we expect an increase in calls to our free 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900), where callers are able to speak to master's-level care consultants who provide them with crisis assistance, connection to support groups and information and educational materials to guide them through the different stages of the disease.
If you or someone you know has been impacted by Alzheimer's, you know how critical this moment is. We now have treatments approved by the Food and Drug Administration, advances in prevention and early detection methods, and enhancements in care and support resources. Our supporters are a key part of this progress. But our ability to build on it is at risk, so we need you now more than ever.
Your support is crucial in ensuring resources and information continue to remain available to all who need them, and researchers can continue their vital work. By making your first gift that can triple in impact during our Power Our Progress 3X Match, you can help provide even more care and support, as well as accelerate research to bring us closer to a cure.
This incredible match opportunity is made possible thanks to a pledge from Leone McKay, who has generously pledged to match all gifts made by November 17 — up to $660,000 — in honor of her late husband Col. Bill McKay, whom she lost to Alzheimer's after a three-year battle with the disease. Her gift will support research, while your gift can go three times as far toward our mission to lead the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
Sincerely,
Katie Evans
Chief Programs and Mission Engagement Officer
P.S. Federal budget proposals could take away funding for Alzheimer's research and programs. We're working hard to protect research, care and support for the millions of people living with Alzheimer's disease and those who love them. But we need your help now. Please turn your passion into action by making your first gift to support critical research efforts and help provide comprehensive care and support. Thank you.
Your donation will strengthen our efforts to advance Alzheimer's care, support and research. From face-to-face support to online education programs and promising global research initiatives, your gift makes a difference in the lives of all those affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias in your community and across the world. Thank you for your continued support.
