A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan

As we approach Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, we take time to reflect and honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country. I hope many of you will be able to join the commemorations at Victoria Embankment this Sunday or at the Council House on Tuesday to pay your respects where we will hold a two-minutes’ silence.

Next week also marks our Full Council meeting on Monday, where citizens will once again have the opportunity to put their questions directly to councillors and see local democracy in action. The meeting will be live streamed on YouTube from 2pm, so you can watch along and see how decisions are made on behalf of Nottingham’s residents.

Remembrance
Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day

The traditional Remembrance Service takes place at Victoria Embankment on Sunday 9 November. The ceremony will begin at 10.45am with a parade comprising Armed Forces personnel, cadets, and veterans, followed by the wreath laying and two-minute silence. Music will be provided by the Nottinghamshire Band of The Royal Engineers, accompanied by the Nottingham Hospitals Choir. Read more and download the order of service. [ [link removed] ]

To mark Armistice Day, there will be a short service on the steps of the Council House on Tuesday 11 November, commencing at 10.55am with the two-minute silence at 11am.

People wishing to watch the services and pay their respects are very welcome.

This Girl Can Nottingham Awards 2025 – Finalists Announced!

Active Nottingham is thrilled to announce the finalists for the This Girl Can Nottingham Awards 2025!

For 2025, a record-breaking 506 entries were received, and the calibre of the nominations was exceptionally high, making the selection process incredibly difficult for all the judges.

These incredible individuals and groups have inspired us all by championing movement, breaking down barriers and showing that *This Girl Can, *no matter the background, ability, or experience.

To all that were nominated, your commitment to excellence within your community is commendable, and we encourage you to continue!

Letting boards
Nottingham City Council submits formal proposal to tackle letting board clutter

Nottingham City Council has submitted a formal proposal to the Secretary of State seeking to restrict the display of letting boards in selected areas of the city. These areas have a high concentration of student accommodation and other Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).

The proposal follows a detailed public consultation held earlier this year and long-standing concerns from residents and community groups about the impact of letting boards on the visual environment, particularly in neighbourhoods with high concentrations of rented accommodation. If approved, it would mean that boards could no longer be displayed without consent from the council.

Cycle survey
We want your views on the Hucknall Road cycle route

In 2024, Nottingham City Council completed improvements to the Hucknall Road cycle corridor [ [link removed] ]. This cycle route runs along Hucknall Road between the Ring Road and Cairns Close, along Andover Road before joining Hucknall Road again up to Bestwood Road and the National Cycle Network route 6. 

Please take a few moments to have your say on this cycle route by 21st November.

All respondents who complete this survey and provide their contact details will be entered into a free prize draw and could win a £20 gift card that can be used across a wide range of local shops, restaurants, bars, and services.

Christmas Light Switch On

Get into the Christmas spirit with a fantastic line-up of events at Nottingham Central Library this season – celebrating local creativity, community, and festive fun for all ages.

?? *Notts Zine Fest* – "Saturday 8 November, 10am–4pm"
We’re partnering with Notts Zine Fest 2025 for a full-building takeover celebrating visual art and grassroots publishing. Expect stalls, workshops, talks, performances, live illustration, and more.

?? *BIPC Christmas Fair* – "Saturday 6 December, 11am–3pm"
Join us in the Nottingham Central Library Atrium for a festive celebration of local creativity and entrepreneurship. The fair will feature a handpicked selection of local businesses, makers, and creators supported by the Business & IP Centre (BIPC) Nottinghamshire.

✨ *Christmas Light Switch-On at Central* – "Friday 21 November"
Enjoy an evening of live music, stalls, and festive cheer – including Christmas classics from performance artist *Ro De La Monja* and a seasonal orchestral showcase by the *Peak Wind Orchestra*.

Mobility Hubs
Pupils provide inspiration for launch of city’s Mobility Hubs

School children helped to officially launch a hub which links different modes of transport in Nottingham and makes it easier for people to get around the city.

Pupils from Old Basford Primary School (above) visited Nottingham City Council’s new Mobility Hub, in Percy Street (inset), where they proudly showed off the community mural they helped to design.

They then got their hands dirty by digging in with some planting activities, helping to green the space and make it more welcoming.

The facility is one of six initial sites that have been introduced across Nottingham using funding from the £16.7m Future Transport Zones (FTZ) programme [ [link removed] ], which is a joint project with Derby City Council.

The others are at Lambourne Drive, Wollaton; the Dales Central Library in Sneinton; Bulwell station; Winchester Street, Sherwood; and the Bridgeway Centre in The Meadows.
