Yesterday the New Orleans-based Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals handed the State of Texas a major win by overturning the ruling of a Houston federal judge who blocked Senate Bill (SB) 12, the law passed by the Texas Legislature to protect children from being exposed to sexualized content at drag shows.
Texas Values was a leading organization fighting for passage of SB 12 to protect children during the 88th Legislature, and also filed a legal amicus brief in support of the law. Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values said:
“In 2023 we said this fight was far from over, and today’s ruling proves we meant it. There is a legitimate interest in protecting kids from hyper-sexualized performances that lure children into harmful exposure. We will not compromise on our duty to protect the most vulnerable, and we will never apologize for standing up for Texas children.” Read more about it here. |

Recently, a Texas doctor who performed sex-change operations and procedures on children surrendered her Texas medical license and left Texas. Dr. May Lau was sued last year by the Texas Attorney General for violating a Texas law passed in 2023 that bans sex changes for minors, SB 14.
Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values said: “I am pleased to see that the Ban on Childhood Gender Modification is working as planned. No child should have their futures or bodies ruined by cross sex hormones or the cutting off of healthy body parts. If these doctors do not want to follow the law, then they should not be doctors. Texas will continue to fight for children to protect the bodies and image God has given them.“ Watch Mary Elizabeth Castle discuss this issue in depth here. Read our Press Release here. |

UPDATE:
The legal stakes just got higher for the Texas Ten Commandments law. The United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit agreed this week to hear the Texas case—Nathan v. Alamo Heights Independent School District—en banc (that is, with the full panel of active judges) and will review it together with a similar challenge from Louisiana under that state’s Ten Commandments‐display requirement.
The en banc scheduling bypasses the usual three-judge panel and pushes the issue directly before the full court—reflecting the high national stakes of the issue. Oral arguments are set for January 2026. In practical terms, this means that Texas’s law to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms is not stalled or in limbo where school districts can ignore or delay implementation—it is now headed toward a major appellate showdown which could uphold the constitutionality of the law as the U.S. Supreme Court clearly allowed in Kennedy v. Bremerton.
Currently, the law is in effect statewide, but 11 school districts received an injunction from a federal district court to hold off on posting the Ten Commandments in classrooms until the resolution of litigation.

Sign up to be on a Social Studies TEKS review work group!
The Texas State Board of Education is in the process of reviewing the Social Studies TEKS for all K-12 public school students. Part of the process includes having work groups draft the TEKS that will later be presented to the SBOE for a vote. Having solid people serve on a work group is crucial in making sure important historical facts are not removed from the Social Studies TEKS drafts!
We would like to encourage anyone in the Central Texas area who cares about our American and Texas Heritage and does not want to see woke materials in the TEKS to volunteer to serve on a workgroup. The best applicant will have some experience teaching history or Social Studies or has an educational background in these subjects.
Apply here. Your application will be sent to your SBOE member who will then decide if and when you will serve on a work group.
If you have additional questions about the Social Studies TEKS review please send an email to [email protected]. |

"Imagine the amount of work it takes to be at the legislature everyday and to work with people who disagree with you...people calling us bad names, attacking me physically… I was attacked when walking up the stairs to the house chamber in 2023.
Somebody’s got to be a voice, and we embrace that. This is what we do.
They’re trying to help get 'tuck kits' into public schools! Crazy!" ~ Jonathan Saenz

Parental Rights & Election Integrity were among Key Ballot Measures across the Country this Week |
Texas’ Proposition 15, which adds parental rights to the state constitution, thankfully passed. Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values is quoted in the Daily Signal article regarding the amendment saying: “The amendment recognizes what we already know intuitively, but freedom is fragile. Parents have the right to protect their children today under court precedent. But going 10 to 15 years from now, if a judge changes his mind, or if we have a different culture, it could remove it.”
