Friend,

The greatest trick the corporate class and aloof politicians ever played
was convincing ordinary people that nothing they could do would ever
really make a difference.

Some call it manufacturing consent. Manufactured cynicism is just as
dangerous.

Binge the show. Go to sleep. Watch the game. Look at the screen. Nod at
the pundits. Swipe left. Swipe right. Every couple years, tick a box.
Put your head back down. We'll handle the rest.

Here's our attitude at Common Dreams: Wake up. Stand up. Come together.
Act up. And as a reader, you know this. In this world, the powerful step
on the weak, but increasingly, we see people rising up in demand for
urgent solutions and a more livable future.

Fed up with media outlets always getting it wrong, here's what we do:
build our outlet ourselves. Funded from the very start by a group of
small donors willing to take a chance on a big idea, Common Dreams is
proof that there is nothing we can't do—but only if we do it together.

Don't let anyone tell you there's nothing to be done. And please—because
every contribution is so endlessly important—support independent media
that understands that people are powerful when we stand and act
together. It's not just the world of issues we cover, it's who we are.

Our Summer Campaign is just halfway through. Can you help us reach our
urgent goal? We can't do it without you.
