Dear John,

Welcome to my November Newsletter!

November in Christchurch is one of the busiest months of the year.  The city
comes alive for Show week, the Races, Christmas and then all the associated end
of year events.

As usual the National Party has a stand at the Canterbury Show is on 13,14,15
November at the Canterbury Agricultural Park. I will be there both Friday and
Saturday from 10-3pm. Pop in for a chat!

I am delighted to have just been re-selected as the National Party’s candidate
for the Ilam electorate at next year’s general election. It’s not something I
take for granted.

My goal remains to be the best local MP in Ilam and in Parliament, and I will
continue to work very hard to achieve that. I very much enjoy meeting the
people, businesses, and groups that make up the Ilam electorate to best
represent them in Parliament.

This year I have sent out 6,800 individually addressed letters (to residents in
various parts of the electorate inviting them to events and attaching a survey
from them to fill out. I’ve also sent 1,850 surveys to all the new residents and
new voters in the electorate. The replies help me to understand the issues, both
generic and specific to the areas within the electorate.

I have also held a series of café meetings and Retirement home visits around the
electorate this year. I will resume these in ’26.

This week is Measles Immunisation Week. I urge you to check your immunisation
status and ensure your families are protected.

Sadly, cases of measles are continuing to rise in NZ, so there’s never been a
better time to act. Measles is one of the most infectious viruses in the world,
a single case can infect 12 to 18 unvaccinated people, so if you’re not
immunised and you’re exposed, there’s a 90 % chance you’ll get it.

So please, use Measles Immunisation Week to get your MMR vaccine.

October

In October I joined in events celebrating the Mooncake Festival, Pilipino
events, Diwali and the Chinese Lion Dance.

Cancer research is something I am passionate about supporting and I was pleased
to take part in the Pink Ribbon walk and collect for the Pink Ribbon Appeal for
breast cancer research.

I welcomed Kirkwood School students to Parliament, attended a fabulous
production at St Andrew’s College and celebrated with other parents the 75th
Jubilee of Ilam School.

Thank you for staying engaged and for continuing to share your views. I always
welcome your feedback, whether in person, by email, or at community events.

What’s coming up in November

As a local MP it’s important to get out and be seen – I’m looking forward to
being at the Santa Parade. The Parade is on Sunday 23 November at the Canterbury
Agricultural Park. The gates will open at 11am for entertainment, displays,
market, food vendors and then the Parade starts at 2pm.

Entry is FREE! Free parking access is via the Hayton Road entrance.

I am delighted to be one of the award presenters at the Aliwan Festival. This is
an annual Philippine cultural festival dance competition on Saturday 29 November
from 12 noon at Riverside Market.

Celebrate Bishopdale is on Saturday 22 November, 11am- 2pm at Bishopdale Park
and I will be on a stall there. Celebrate Bishopdale is a family fun day with
performers, stalls, activities and food. There will also be Bishopdale Skate jam
so come along to learn how to skate board!

I’m looking forward to attending the Property Council NZ Awards and the Master
Builders – House of the Year event.
