Republican state lawmakers in Iowa are working overtime to make sure Iowans
can’t vote this November -- in fact, this isn’t the first time they’ve tried to
suppress the vote.

Iowa’s GOP lawmakers just passed a bill that constrains the secretary of
state’s authority to change election processes during an emergency like the
COVID-19 pandemic.

Now a coalition of 24 lawmakers is required to approve any changes the
secretary of state makes. This gives Iowa Republicans the ability to outright
reject mail-in voting during a pandemic.

This would have stopped absentee ballots from being mailed to ALL registered
voters during last week’s June 2nd primary --in which 80% of voters voted via
absentee ballot!!!

We should never force Iowans to risk their lives in order to fulfill their
constitutional right to vote. If you agree, add your name to our petition right
now DEMANDING that Iowa’s leaders make it easier to vote in the November
elections via absentee voting.

During this global pandemic, if state lawmakers truly cared about getting
folks to vote they would be working to improve and expand early and absentee
voting.

Take it from the GOP lawmakers themselves and the legislation they’ve
introduced to see if they have Iowans’ best interests at heart. The GOP:

* Passed a Voter ID law to combat nonexistent voter fraud
* Tried and failed to ban satellite voting stations in state-owned buildings,
which would have prevented early voting on college campuses and the Iowa
Veterans Home
* Passed a bill this month requiring felons to repay restitution before their
voting rights are restored
During times like these, we can’t afford to stay silent. Our democracy is on
the line. If you’re with us, add your name to our petition DEMANDING Iowa
Republicans make it easier to vote via absentee ballot this November.
