Guidelines and procedures

Voting procedure and Slack

As amendments and resolutions are debated during the meeting, voting will take place live using the #dues-only channel in Slack. The Convention Committee determined that Slack would be the most seamless way to vote in real-time while also tallying up votes as motions are put forward.

Members in good standing will be added to that channel before the start of Convention.

Not on Slack yet? Be sure to download the app and familiarize yourself with it before the 25th. If you need an invite to join the chapter Slack, reach out to [email protected]. Once you’ve logged in, you can check out our FAQ page, which contains information about using Slack.

Writing amendments and resolutions

If you’re working on your own Bylaws Amendments or Political Resolutions, you might find these guides helpful:

  2. Chapter Bylaws

Speaking and conducting business

We use something called the “progressive stack” during meetings to give ample time and space for anyone who wants to add to a conversation or ask questions. We will also use Robert's Rules of Order.

If you’re unfamiliar with Robert’s Rules of Order, check out the following:

  1. Why we use Robert’s Rules
  2. Cheat sheet
Remember - there's still time to submit your own political resolution or bylaw amendment! These proposals are due at 11:59 PM on July 14th. Email [email protected] with any questions about this process.
