John –
I just confronted Speaker Johnson on the U.S. Capitol steps. Why? I couldn't stay silent while he deflected blame for the longest government shutdown in our nation’s history. I spoke up and demanded accountability.
Enough is enough. Enough political posturing. Enough chaos. Enough of President Trump and his enablers in Congress refusing to meet with Democrats, refusing to end the needless suffering, refusing to put people over politics.
I said to Speaker Johnson: “You have an obligation to call the leadership of both parties and bring us together and solve this problem together.”
His response? He tried to blame Democrats and lecture me but I didn't back down. We, all of us, are sick and tired of being held hostage by extreme politics, and I was there to remind him that his job is to govern – not to grandstand.
This moment is about more than just a confrontation on a set of steps. It is a snapshot of exactly why I ran for Congress: to be a leader who fights for common sense and bipartisanship, not to join a party that values political victory over delivering results.
I’ve been trying to work across the aisle on paid family leave, on supporting our veterans, and on addressing the real needs of our farmers – but all of that vital work is put on hold when the Speaker chooses chaos and shutdowns.
The other side is seeing our momentum, especially after this week’s election results, and they know our moderate, problem-solving approach is a threat to their extreme agenda.
I cannot stand up to the extreme fringe alone. I need you with me today. Will you chip in $5, $25, or whatever you can afford right now to keep me fighting for our values in Congress?

Thank you for being in this fight with me.
