And this chaos is no accident. Trump tried to weaponize a government shutdown for political gain, using it as a shield to fire thousands of federal employees and get away with it.
But last week, a federal judge in San Francisco said enough is enough.
Judge Susan Illston granted an injunction that barred the Trump administration from moving forward with the mass firings, ruling that evidence shows the cuts were baseless and politically motivated.
The lawsuit, filed by the American Federation of Government Employees and several other labor unions, argued that the layoffs were an abuse of authority, intended to target workers and pressure Congress to give in to Trump’s demands.
Thanks to this ruling, thousands of federal workers have a fighting chance to keep their jobs and make it through this shutdown.
