Hi there — I’m Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and founder of Off the Sidelines.

She might not realize it yet, but her grandmother is teaching her that her voice matters — and that her advocacy can make a difference.
In a world full of people telling young girls to be quiet and wait their turn, seeing my grandmother Polly be a fiery and outspoken Democratic activist changed everything for me. She is the one who inspired me to be bold and raise my voice.
That’s the reason I ran for office: to be a voice for those who don’t have one, to take on the toughest fights in Washington and to stand up for what’s right.
Today, we have lots of tough fights ahead in the Senate under Donald Trump’s administration: stopping the endless corruption, making life more affordable for working Americans on everything from healthcare to housing, capping credit card interest rates, protecting Social Security and Medicare and raising the minimum wage.
I will be fearless in the fight to get the job done — just like my grandmother taught me. That’s why I need your help.
I founded Off the Sidelines to organize and mobilize Democrats to participate in politics, set the local and national policy agenda and hold elected leaders accountable. To get off the sidelines.
Now, I’m taking that mission one step further with this Substack.
I want this space to be a place where we can go deeper — beyond the headlines, beyond the soundbites — to talk about how we actually build change.
I’ll share news about the fights that matter most, and the stories of the people who inspire me to keep going. I’ll also highlight the incredible leaders charting the way in their communities — and offer practical ways to support their work and get off the sidelines yourself.
Every once in a while, I’ll ask for your grassroots support to help keep up this fight. Right now, Democrats are strategizing to take back our House and Senate majorities next year.
It will be an uphill battle against the GOP’s dark money and billionaire donors. But we’ve won this fight before, and we can win it again.
