One thing I never wanted to do was lose touch with patients. When I took on my job as chief medical transformation officer at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest (PPPSW), I made sure I'd still be able to see patients and provide care directly.
PPPSW has 20 health centers throughout Southern California, across San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial Counties, delivering care to over 111,000 patients annually. Making sure I'm regularly in the exam room with patients helps me stay focused on that patient experience.
That's what this work is all about, after all. Patients know that when they come into a Planned Parenthood health center, they get the highest quality care. They see the best clinicians possible, in an environment where they are welcomed, respected, and valued.
As you know, that care is under threat right now through a federal law that "defunds" health centers and denies patients access to the comprehensive care they deserve.
It's so important for all of us to understand what is at stake right now and come together to protect access to care. So I want you to hear it from me -- an ob-gyn who has been doing this work for over 20 years -- and learn what Planned Parenthood health centers actually do each and every day.
Planned Parenthood health centers defend reproductive freedom. Provide abortion care for people who choose it. Detect cancers, provide comprehensive STI testing and treatment, offer menopause care, and support patients as they plan out their future. Planned Parenthood health centers are there for Planned Parenthood patients through every stage of their reproductive lives.
