I grew up on food stamps. Letting them lapse is a moral failure that I won’t stand for.
John, since we launched our campaign last week, the response has been incredible.
People are ready for elected officials that fight for THEM, not for the spotlight. They’re sick of politicians like Nancy Mace who shamelessly chase cameras while parents in her own district are wondering how they’ll feed their kids.
Right now, families across South Carolina are dealing with a reduction in SNAP benefits - all because Washington can’t get its act together. It’s a moral failure, and I’m not going to sit back and just watch it happen.
I’ll be filing a bill called the Families First Food Security Act to make sure no South Carolina family ever goes hungry again because of D.C. dysfunction. My plan automatically steps in with state support if the federal government shuts down and SNAP benefits stop.
I know what these families are going through, John . I grew up on food stamps - they allowed me and my family to eat when times were hard. I’ll never forget the feeling of wondering where my next meal would come from.
No child should carry that kind of worry. No parent should have to choose between keeping the lights on and putting food on the table. And no politician should EVER play games with programs that feed American families.
Washington has lost its compass. So South Carolina will find its own.
I’m Jermaine Johnson, and I’m running to be the next Governor of South Carolina.
I wasn’t born into power — I fought my way into it. I'm not a career politician or a wealthy insider.
I'm a husband, father, and fighter who knows what it’s like to grow up with nothing and still keep pushing forward.
