I’ve introduced legislation to create a state-level system to investigate civil rights violations in education.
Friend,
For decades, the U.S. Department of Education has been responsible for protecting students’ civil rights, ensuring that children with disabilities receive the resources to which they are legally entitled, and that no student is discriminated against in our schools.
But the Trump administration has been working to dismantle the Department entirely. Their cuts have shuttered Pennsylvania’s Office of Civil Rights and sent student complaints to an understaffed office in Atlanta, if they’re even investigated at all.
That’s not just shortsighted — it’s cruel. No student in Pennsylvania should lose their right to a fair and equal education because of extremist politics in DC.
That’s why I’ve introduced legislation to create a state-level system to investigate civil rights violations in education, ensuring that students and parents in our Commonwealth have a real resource when they’re discriminated against or denied services.
