*Governor Kelly Holds ‘The People’s Budget’ Tour, Food Drive in Leawood*

"~~Nearly 90 Kansans Join Governor’s Fifth Stop,
Contribute 611 Pounds to Food Drive~~"

*LEAWOOD *– On Wednesday, Governor Laura Kelly hosted the fifth stop on her statewide listening tour ‘The People’s Budget’ in Leawood. Joined by Adam Proffitt, Director of the Budget/Secretary of the Kansas Department of Administration, and nearly 90 Kansans, Governor Kelly’s town hall style event highlighted the governor’s continued work to prioritize fiscal stability in Kansas.

“I was impressed that many Kansans joined us in Leawood last night to share their thoughts on the programs and services they want to see included in my upcoming budget proposal,” *Governor Laura Kelly said.* “Throughout my statewide tour, Kansans have been firm in asking for us to fully fund public schools and special education, and Leawood was no different.”

In Leawood, Kansans consistently asked Governor Kelly to continue fully funding public education and increase funding for special education. Kansans also spoke about supporting early childhood initiatives and programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, bolstering infrastructure investments, expanding Medicaid, and increasing funding for arts and humanities.

Each stop on ‘The People’s Budget’ tour also doubles as a food drive in partnership with the Kansas Food Bank and Harvesters – The Community Food Network. At last night’s event in Leawood, Kansans donated 611 pounds of non-perishable food items that were collected by Harvesters. Kansans planning to donate food at future events can find additional information about in-demand items here [ [link removed] ].
