The Bell County Public Health District (BCPHD) confirms that additional positive West Nile Virus (WNV) mosquito samples have been identified, including one from Harker Heights collected on November 4th.
GREAT NEWS: We have no human cases reported at this time, but this confirms that WNV is still active in our area.
Protect Your Family: Recommended Actions from BCPHD
We urge all residents to take these steps immediately to reduce mosquito populations and personal risk:
• Dump Water: Inspect and eliminate ALL sources of standing water around your property—even a bottle cap full can breed mosquitoes!
• Repel: Use EPA-approved insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
• Cover Up: Wear long sleeves and long pants when outdoors, especially during peak mosquito hours (dawn and dusk).
• Screen Up: Inspect and repair all window and door screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.
