** Namibia seeks to sell ivory and rhino horn ([link removed])

Despite Africa's elephants and rhinos still living under serious threat from poaching and illegal trade, Namibia is pushing hard to resume ivory and horn sales. Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) will gather in Samarkand, Uzbekistan later this month and Namibia has put forward three proposals to allow it to sell rhino horns and stockpiled elephant ivory, a move which EIA warns would be catastrophic for elephants in Namibia and elsewhere in Africa too.

EIA and 53 organisations have written to the UK Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to warn that without action, the UK's exports of plastic waste will continue to fuel injustice, pollution and waste crime in recipient countries.

The European Commission has formally proposed simplifications to the EU Deforestation Regulation and confirmed the law will still apply from January. Although it comes with new exemptions, the decision to resist additional postponement is welcome.
