Gov. Whitmer Makes Appointment to the Bench 

 

LANSING, Mich. —Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the appointment of Cheryl Sweeney to the Monroe County Probate Court 

 

“I’m proud to appoint Cheryl to the Monroe County Probate Court,” said Governor Whitmer. “As a lifelong resident of the area, a longtime employee of the court, and a skilled legal professional, I am confident Cheryl will serve the people of Michigan admirably and uphold the rule of law.” 

 

Monroe County Probate Court

Cheryl Sweeney, of La Salle, is the chief juvenile court referee for the 38th Judicial Circuit Court, Family Division, and deputy probate register for the Monroe County Probate Court.  Sweeney previously served as the sole proprietor at the Law Offices of Cheryl Sweeney, and as an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Terri HallSweeney is a member of the State Bar of Michigan Children’s Law Section and the Referees Association of Michigan.

  

Cheryl Sweeney holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law. Sweeney is also a graduate of Monroe High School and was named valedictorian of her graduating class.     

 

I would like to thank Governor Whitmer for providing me with the opportunity to serve as the next Monroe County Probate Judge,” said Sweeney. “I am deeply honored and humbled by this appointment. It will be my privilege to serve the people of the community I love in this position. 

 

This appointment will be made to fill a partial term following the resignation of Judge Frank Arnold. Judge Sweeney’s term will expire at twelve o’clock noon on January 1, 2027.
