We’re just days away from the UN climate change conference COP30, where delegates need to feel the pressure. The conference offers a real chance for countries in the Global South, who are structurally disadvantaged by our international monetary and financial system and the most climate vulnerable, to call for climate finance and support for a just transition. [2] And for Global North leaders to listen, and to cough up.
Because climate disasters are real and they’re happening more frequently to the communities that have done the least to cause them. Just look at the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean - a region that’s only responsible for 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions. [3] We need action, and we need it now.
We’re mobilising with the Climate Justice Coalition because we know pressure works - just last month, Keir Starmer looked set to dodge COP30, but calls for him to attend grew so loud he couldn’t ignore them. [4] That’s the power we have - so we need to use it.
In September, thousands of us joined the Make Them Pay march in London, in a huge show of strength for our movement. [5] Now, we need to come together again, from Manchester to Glasgow, Plymouth to Birmingham, to echo our calls to Make Polluters Pay in solidarity with communities across the globe.
Please, John, find your nearest local action and join us on the 15th November 👇
